I painted them gloss black thinking that the BudBuilt stickers would adhere better. Also the gloss finish has a higher BC at freeway speeds so I think I may have picked up some HP and MPH.;)

Installed this last week and it went very well. In the garage, on my back, one plate at a time loose fit then go back and torque.
Nice! Do you have pictures by chance, possibly from a direct front shot at a very low angle (from the ground or so)? Thanks!

Not the best light so I found a dirt pile to get a better angle.

Nice! Thank you! Looks good! Is the budbuilt logo a sticker or is it painted?
It's a nice double sided sticker from Bud, just ask when you order. I have the white "Budbuilt.com" sticker minus the ".com" on the side of my sliders because that one has smaller print and fits perfectly in the forward space on the main plate.
I like to give credit were credit is due.

Agreed! I might be leaning towards going with the bare stainless steel. I'm sure they have black stickers too!

Stainless steel would be my first choice now if I were to do it over again but I would still paint the first plate gloss black. The gloss will look flat after a couple of puddles.

@Taco2Cruiser I thought I’d revive this thread. Since I’m starting to get more adventurous with my 2018 200, the next thing is armor.
I believe I’m settled on the full set of overland protection in bare aluminum with SS hardware. I’m in central NY state- salt and snow territory- so I believe this is my best option. It’s my daily and my wheeler.
Just waiting on my stimulus check and I’m pulling the trigger. I got sidetracked by a good deal on an ARB fridge or I would have ordered already. Any idea what lead times are right now?

I’m guessing 4-6 weeks. I ordered mine in March and they were delivered a month later. I went with the raw stainless under body and aluminum front panel per Rob’s recommendation.

Well... about last October Bud and I said that we are tired of building to order everything. So we took a massive risk and bought a ton of tubing and sheet steels/aluminum and tried to guess what people would want out of all the possible combinations we can make have have some stuff in stock. So during this whole COVID thing, we sold more than we were really ready for. But I always prioritize fellow 200 guys so I have 3 sets of that material ready to go.

I can’t say enough about just how awesome Rob (taco2cruiser) is from BudBuilt.
He called me, after a long day, and spent 45 minutes on the phone explaining all the differences in the 200 armor so that I could get exactly the perfect combination for my needs and wants. And, kudos to the BudBuilt team for extending themselves to try to keep more stock on hand for us build guys who get super antsy for quick shipping when we have finally decided to pull the trigger. I can’t wait to see, install, and beat up some armor. The LandBruizer is gonna be ready to rock. 🤘🏼🤘🏼

If any of that material is yet to be spoken for, then I need full armor and sliders. I'd already decided to go with BudBuilt and came upon this thread as I was confining my research to steel vs. aluminum.

Best is to just shoot me a PM. I always take care of the mud guys and have a pretty vast array of materials as well as some past versions that we are getting ready for discount packages.

I wish we could afford to become vendors on here because I love this group but... we just don't have those kind of profit margins. Things to keep working toward, it will happen one day.

This happened today. I was supposed to be on top of this rock to miss another but then slid off, clunk. RF tire was off the ground just before this picture, I backed off the rock before taking the picture. Thank you, Rob and Bud Built for a quality product.

Has anyone purchased raw steel, sanded and painted it themselves? Looking to save a few bucks and wondering if I am going to immediately regret it or not.

I bought raw aluminum, which doesn't need to be finished but I went ahead and did prime and paint. It was a relatively large PITA, but I can't use spray paint (personal choice), so hand painting enamel and waiting for it to dry took a long time (brief sprint to add a coat, then long downtime to dry). If you can afford pre-finished probably worth it.

Good to know. Likewise, i was gonna skip the spray paint and go with a por15 top coat or somehting of that nature.

I went aluminum and left them unfinished.

For the extra couple hundred it was worth getting them painted.. A lot of surface area to deal with prepping and painting was my thought. Sliders I did raw since that was less work.

You could primer them and paint with quality paint or you could spray galv or just powdercoat. That's why (besides weight savings) I went with aluminum with steel nose piece.
