Do they make a solution that accomplishes the same thing off the vehicle charging system?

None that im aware off, but im not running a stock vehicle either.....
In the 60 series I have the NOCO Genius Gen 2 permanently mounted in the engine bay for both batteries..
The other two vehicles alternate with a NOCO Genius 10 smart charger...

At what voltage do AGM batteries like to be charged? I have a DieHard Platinum AGM in my Bronco since 2013, and one in my Tacoma since 2015. They were the preferred battery of the time based on internet research I did back then. I’ve not used a diode or modified a charging system to support AGM so I’m wondering if the charging system in a 2015 LC is drastically different than a 12 Taco or 2000 Explorer (Bronco engine swapped), are the new AGM batteries different, have I just been lucky, does it matter?

I had to put a new battery in the LC last month before a camping trip. My ARB fridge didn’t like the voltage of the Toyota battery in it so I checked and it was below 12. I reluctantly bought a Duralast at autozone as it was the only Group27F battery in town that day. Now I see it hovering around 11.6 volts. I put my battery tender on it for 24 hours and it won’t go green.

I‘m most likely going to get the batteries plus AGM but probably Won’t do the diod mod to bump up the charge voltage. Will I be ruining an expensive battery if I don’t do the mod?

Pretty simple, changing out a single fuse.

They’re ungodly expensive but I like their lightweight claims and other jumpstart features. I have two Diehard Platinums that won’t die so I’m not ready to replace but enjoy looking at new technology.

I wonder who made those DieHard Platinum AGM batteries, they were great! I have a Superstart Platinum in my old F350 and it is holding up well, got it in 2017.

I thought they were coming from the same factory as the Odyssey’s at that time. Both of mine are from 2014 and spent their first years in my 100. Haven’t added the second battery to this 200 yet, it’s just sitting.

yes, I thought about that too. The 31 has a little more capacity and is probably the better deep cycle battery which would be good for a winch and no 2nd battery but I just didn't want to mess with any (even minor) cable or tray mods. I've got way too many LC projects in play and it seems I just keep adding and buying things. Plus the 27F is a 60 month replacement warranty vs the 31's 48 months. Also, the 31 weighs and additional 13 lbs (67 vs. 80).

Lots of good stuff on this forum about this topic. After reading the threads I pulled the trigger on a Slee tray and terminals to accomplish the size 31 battery. Went with Interstate 31-MHD. Since I plan to stay single battery I wanted the larger battery. I'll grab a NOCO and small solar and like my odds and much cheaper than dual batteries or AGM and diode; besides the charging system of our rides is designed for lead acid.

The SLEE installation is super easy. There is enough slack in the positive cable but will need to unwrap the 'tape' about 1 foot from the factory terminal to get the slack then you can rewrap the cables back together. This is required with the taller 31 battery. I was happy I replaced the terminals because my stock positive terminal fell apart when I took it off the stock battery. Also the Slee terminals are ideal for future electrical growth mods.

I would stay away from any AGM battery for the LC200 as a main battery. LC has a temperature regulated alternator which gives out 13.4 to 13.9 volts. The required charging current for AGM is 14.5 to 14.8 volts. So as a result you will be constantly undercharging your AGM battery, which will cause the premature wear. By the way I suspect that a result of the common complain that AGMs do not last long. That's could be the reason. I am using standard flooded type as a main starting battery and Odyssey AGM as auxiliary one, but I am using redarc DC-to-DC charger which gives right voltage output.

I went through a similar deal a few weeks ago. I ended up learning that the Optima batteries have issues and even though they seemed to be the most rebound brand, decided against them. I took a simple approach with my research on this, called 3 different battery shops in my local area and asked how often the yellow tops were coming back in under warranty. I was shocked that one shop had 3 returned already that week. He said they have anywhere from 2-6 come back each week.

I ended up going with the Odyssey Performance AGM2 battery. Note: they have an extreme version but they are being discontinued due to problems. They are now pushing the AGM2.

I went ahead and replaced the terminals while I was at it with new OEM. Pricey little suckers. $13 for the left and $32 for the right I think.

According to Odyssey the AGM is require 14.7 volts (like the most AGMs)!

What years does the diode mod work on? I thought I recall it doesn't work on 2016 and up?

I upgraded to a group 31 X2 in a Slee tray on my 2016 and use a Noco charger every few weeks to keep it topped off properly.

Are the tacoma alternators that are so often diode-modded and written up about also temperature regulated? They seem to successfully get a charging profile that works for AGM.

My potential plans are different than OP.. I'm considering one of the northstar batteries so I can run an ARB fridge for a day, at most, on my trips. Occasionally. With this use case I can't see a true dual battery system being worth the work, weight, sacrifice in space, etc. I have considered running it off a Yeti goalzero 400 but don't want to find a spot for it inside the truck, nor have that much potential energy inside the cab.
