Roger so this # 85120-90808, if found, would provide intermittent function for a LHD 12v US 40? What years did US 40s have the intermittent function?

With "making it work" I meant that I think that you can use both as a replacement for the other with some handicraft. You should be able to make an intermittent wiper with an 90308 provided you have an intermittent dash switch (with 2 connectors) and wiper control.

Looking at the later model motors show in the photographs I noticed they all have a ground strap going from the gearbox to attach on the chassis. Mine had none and guessing case ground isn't adequate ? Mine is a '77.

Does anyone know of different car makes that are adaptable, ie not for resto just to have working wipers?

OK, I'm a electrical dumbass so please help me. I have the 1977 wiper motor on the bench.
Does the black wire go to 12V ground ?
Blue/red to 12V positive for one speed ?
Blue/white or yellow for another speed ?
Blue for off ?

and do I need the additional case ground wire to test on the bench ?

Just curious, but has anyone looked into truing the commutator and rebrushing the motor to bring it back to life if they start to fail?

I've replaced the brushes on a couple a motors, but there was no need to work the comms other than to clean them up a little with canvas.

Small LHD wiper motor. It’s a spare. Tore it apart, got it working again(awhile ago). Finally got around to soldering a new park wire, used GR in place of LB. Figured I’d post up a couple measurements before she goes into storage:hillbilly:

Racer listed this as a FJ55 motor but “known to work in a 40”. Did some searching, I think 55’s had the plug built into the motor cover. Not positive though:meh:

I went down this rabbit hole. I went behind the O'Reilly Automotive counter with my windshield wiper motor out of a 79 and tried to compare bolt hole location. Found a great replacement, exact fit, or at least what I thought was great replacement.

A 1999 windshield wiper motor out of a Dodge Ram 1500 for $50. It was a mirror image to the original motor Man I was stoked. Just had to drill out the arm a little as the shaft was larger. Also had to slightly bend arm for clearance.:bounce::bounce: I thought at first.

Only problem was about three quarters of an inch deeper, meaning my cover would not cover. I apologize because I'm doing all this on my phone right now. So the next move was cut at bend for attachment plate, add another three quarter inches & weld it up. What a rabbit hole.

Hours of grinding, welding, grinding welding, grinding welding chasing pin holes. This is very thin.

Not as attractive as I would have preferred. Wrong rabbit hole. One of these days will take back off take the time to put a better finish look to it.

From 8ft away it doesn't look that bad. Really miss the patina though.

Here are more shots of the NOS 85120-90808 that was seen on eBay. This part number provides the intermittent function on late model Cruisers. The dimensions should be the same as p/n 85120-90308 more commonly found in U.S. Cruisers. View attachment 1058885 View attachment 1058886 View attachment 1058887 View attachment 1058888
Reviving an older thread to possibly keep new tech information in the same place.

@Racer65 Roger, do you know what distinguishes the wiper motors that support the intermittent function and those that don’t?

As I understand it, 85120-90806 is the correct part number for my 1983 HJ47RV, however, it looks like the original has been replaced at some point by 85120-90306:

Based on what little knowledge I have, it looks like the wiring on my motor may have been modified. I’m wondering if that was done to accommodate the intermittent function. Hence my question:

Do the differences between 85120-90806 (intermittent) and 85120-90306 (not intermittent) come down to wiring?

Excellent thread Roger. I need to post up the ‘76 motor I have found for my brother Bill’s rig. Was missing when we bought it.
