The South Bend 13 inch work continues. It has become a little more involved. I decided to repaint the base with the motor in it.

Removing paint is a dirty, dirty job. I am going to bondo it up and make it look nice. I still have no plans to repaint the headstock.

I have to say I really enjoy playing with old cast iron.

I’d know those purple straps anywhere!! Used them on my drill press…similar lift 👍

Coincidentally, just yesterday I used one of them to pull a side-by-side of a stranded neighbor using the 93 Middle East 80.

And yes, the running board on the drivers side is bunged up. Brackets bent too from a little misadventure in Florida a few months back.

The South Bend is going back together now. I will save the bed and head and so forth for another time. This was all about cleaning everything and having a look at everything and painting the things that were easy to do.

I do love annular cutters...! They make so much sense.

I've been working on building my own little tool collection for a while now. Recently picked up this Supra CNC conversion mill and this Colchester 2500 VS lathe. The lathe needs a new VFD and oil pump motor, but the mill is in great shape and super low hours.

The guys I bought the lathe from had some BIG stuff in their shop. It was pretty neat to see several multi million dollar machines running.

I also came across all this steel for 1K, there is a good bit of tool steel and stainless in there which I am super excited about.

It's about 3.5 tons as far as I can guess, and moving it twice in one day really sucked lol.

Thanks! I've been missing the capability after getting to run a bunch of nice stuff at school. My current employment is pretty under tooled for the stuff we do, and I'm wanting to do more.

My stuff is very very last century. The South bend lathe is a beautiful piece of machinery but it's not got a tenth of the capability of your Clausing. And your mill is very cool. That's a Bridgeport under there isn't it?

Bridgeport clone, built in 2016. Got it fully tooled for 2500. It is Chinese, but the way I see it, it hasn't had the time to get worn in and it is a pretty nice machine. I'll never be pushing the accuracy of that machine.

I have a nice bridgeport in the LA area but I have not figured out how to get it to Florida. I would love to do a conversion like what you have there.

Been there, done that. You put the money down and then turn around and wonder what the heck you've just done to yourself... :frown:

Picked up a new 3/8 Snap-on torque wrench. Also keeping my eye out for a deal on a 1/2 to replace one that was killed by leaking batteries years ago. Duracell actually sent me a check for that one. Both will go in the drawer labeled @Godwin - Do Not Use.
