That looks like one well cared for pig

What's everybody's thoughts on type of paint and I hope this would be a goof thread for this question. I'm thinking about painting mine two tone, but not gloss. it would be a two stage paint, but with a semi-gloss look. I'm just not sure I like the real glossy look on a pig.

Well, having just painted my 55, I love me some single stage gloss. I figure its going to be semi-loss look in a few months time anyway.

(note the rear quarters are not in place).

Hermosa11,

From what I've been reading, single stage is alittle less shiny looking, unless you color sand and buff it out.

The new two stage paints, to me, looks more like a plastic coating on the paint. I know they don't use it on vintage cars, wouldn't look right.

Just thinking out loud.

Normally I like single stage since it's period correct. When I restored my 1962 FJ40 I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the gloss was on the single stage finish. Just looked beautiful. I was also impressed when I saw this black FJ55 live for the first time. The PO did the restore. Though it is two stage it really is not overbearing in real life. Nice gloss clear coat, paint is real nice quality, holding up real well.

Well I'm going with tintable bed liner so I'm probably the wrong person to ask

82cruiser, who just finished his Troopy, used a flattner to give the paint alittle bit less gloss look and have the protection of the clear coat. I don't want it to look like my Military trucks, though.

I know we did zero sand and polish, and its pretty glossy. nice thing is if there is a run you can sand/buff and it wii be fine. That being said I love the satin/matte looks on contemporary cars and show cars.

I prefer red heads. Single stage is great, you can wet sand scratches out and re buff. Damaged panels can be shot to match too.
