Design Issues -- for those interested...
Accutruss says the 24" parallel scissor truss in the plan will not pass inspection with the 3:12 roof- I need a 36" tall girder truss for the 36 foot span. This reduces my floor to peak clearance from 15'6" to 14'6" still OK for the Benpak hoist. Now with the big girder truss I asked them to design it with a 1,500 lb. load 6' either side of the midpoint for a small chain or electric hoist.
I also need engineered walls (which the designer didn't mention) since they are over 12' high (another $700 for design) - ding-ding-ding.

ibeam or skin each side of the one truss with plywood . sounds like you should call ruggy or vanny on the sly ..tons of ways around that on a dime budget.

Update
With my new girder truss and high wall design from Acutruss that will be ready Monday - I should have a 12' drive in clearance and 14.4' feet floor to ceiling height for the middle bay.
Following Rugby's suggestion I asked to have the girder truss designed for have a 1,500 lb lifting capacity 6' feet either side of the center bay.
I can run 70 amps out to the shop for almost the cost of the cable - for 100 amps I will need a service upgrade at an additional cost $2,500 - too expensive.
The cable run will have 100 amp capacity for a future upgrade.

Update: Too many fire restrictions to build at minimum west property line set back of 5'.
Solution - move shop east 12'- this creates hidden storage lane (9' by 36') along shop for those unsightly 'parts trucks', metal stock, wood pile, etc.
Disadvantage - must knock down perfectly good 10' by 10' cedar garden shed -what a crying shame!
Solution - incorporate 10' by 12' garden shed under last 12' of the 10' by 36' covered patio along east side
Delay - the world must stop until the 'overworked' city 'plan checker' comes back from her holidays.

3rd go today for the permit - these City plan checkers love spending other peoples money - they want 2 sets of 24" by 36" plans each time. Tough being polite at this point

Considering the detail and quality of your plans I'm thinking they are just being dicks right now. Most of the stuff done locally here on home upgrades isn't even half of what you submitted.

After 28 days and three application attempts (two engineered trusses and an an engineered high wall drawing), I got my permit today. Will be moving dirt next week.

Congrats.... hope the inspections aren't as difficult as getting the permit!

28 days is pretty fast, West Van is 12-14 weeks. The two sets of drawings, one for their office and the second gets stamped or perforated with the city's insignia and acts as your building permit that the inspectors will want to see for your inspections.

Foundation poured today - there are two pads on the front (2x 28" by 28") straddling the center door) and a sigle big pad at the back (32"x32") to support the girder truss. So there is 152' by 18" of foundation plus the pads. The three other pads are to support the sonatubes for 10' x 36' patio roof covering the 'leisure lounge' for relaxing after a hard day of cruiser wrenching.
The excavation was difficult due the removal huge nuggets and a stump right where the center patio pad was to sit - so it ended up rather deep. I think there are more frickin rocks than stars in the sky in that small plot of land
