I'm not in disagreement with you. I went with the biggest mech fan (clutchless) that I could fit (15" 7 blade, I believe) and it wasn't enough. I tried the next size up (still sitting on the shelf, other than mounting scratches is new) flex fan and it cleared the radiator but fins hit the accessories and I don't have room for a spacer.

I'm saying I disagree with the notion that a big mech fan is the only way to keep cool. I was litreally told (by someone looked up to) that if i didnt move the engine back and go big mech fan, it will always overheat.... there are sometimes other factors that can be introduced to change the outcome, as I've shown (and hopefully am not wrong about).

I don't always do what people say needs or should be done. Granted this 40 has been the biggest pain project, butb I've had great success in the past. Hell, part of me hopes the 80 gets rear ended and I can build some weird 40/80 hybrid, I'd much rather have the 1FZ in the 40....

wow, 83,000 views....

Time to make the exhaust less redneck

I put the insulation on top because the top of the muffler will get up to 500 degrees

but it wouldn't last long on a mud day, so something a bit more permanent was required

to quiet the exhaust a bit I'm going to reduce the outlet size, but in my tons of drop steel, no 2" stainless pipe... ugh. I'm going to make the insert removeable, but first I need to build the slider/steps so I know where it should come out. who knows, I may even make the exit square....

I want a part number of that heater valve. I have a plastic one that works OK, but it would be nice to have a better one on the shelf as a spare.

As for your slider think about how far out you want it. I made mine to follow the contour of the factory step. The problem is that it doesn't keep me far enough away from stuff and has led to body damage. I am making bump outs to keep my sides a little further from trees and rocks. I want to make mine stick out as far as the tires which is an additional 3".

I'll get to the sliders tomorrow.... I'm actually running out of other things to do; but it may be nice tomorrow and I need to do another shakedown run - so tonight's episode is titled "I wish I had a slip roll"

for the record, this won't work with the 350... weird, no? After all, the motor removed and the motor placed are both GM motors....

it's solidly in place, it will be pretty later

Speaking of the corvette....how did the aluminum heads do?

Didn't you install some Chinese heads off of ebay? How have they held up? Did they make good power?

I'm guessing the negative comments are from that other site. I think your build is fantastic and really like how you have solved some of the issues you've encountered. Your fab skills and attention to detail are really great. I'm going to borrow a few of your ideas in the future as I do some upgrades on my 40. Thanks for documenting all of it, it really helps people like me who want to learn.

I figured I'd wait a day or two to update since this is a tedious and often interrupted job.... and I'm sure most of you are snoozing by now

time for some chopping and welding

non slip application

non slip applied

so there's a problem with attaching to the body. It's got nice pads to limit vibration, but if I bolt solid to the body I'll have no end of trouble, and worse, squeeks

answer is rubber hose

and a bit of paint to limit rust

completed sliders

exhaust ... I seriously considered square exhaust as a nod to someone (Chad) who swore that it made a performance difference, but alas, I have an ARB airbag and it inflates a lot quicker off the exhaust - so I had to save the joke for later

to quiet it down a bit, I reduced the interior volume, we'll see if it's enough tomorrow

end of week, pretty much done pictures

and now the batteries are held in place and the cover is held down.
