none get done? hmmmm, now you're sounding like pirate. Oh wait, to be like pirate I'd have to promise to help then disappear... :)

But there is more to the story. I'm going to take my profit in the 72 Chevy truck... if I need a pickup I have a 5x10 trailer that will tow behind most of my vehicles. I keep threatening to send the Fiat away too... but then again, it's small and I may get interested in it after the deck is done, the house is painted, the floors are redone, and everything else is done. I needed the pickup, but since I'll be replacing my H3 sooner (someone has offered on it) - I'll buy something fairly new and check that box with my DD.

Sounds like musical cars to me. You need to hire someone for the house so you can make your shop bigger. Another 4 bays would be a good start.

Then you can come on over and help me with projects on my house. Wife wants hardwood floors. Strip plank oak. New carpet, new paint, new garage doors, remodeled downstairs bath, remodeled kitchen, and on and on and on.

yep, it's a hobby and done the way I want to do it. That said, I've had the H3 for 5 years - so the DD vehicle is generally the long-around one. The Buick and the Fiat will be here forever, and the Buick actually replaced another car (a 54 Studebaker truck that I owned since high school -85-) and had gone through 3 finished rebuilds (as a truck, then as a 4x4 truck, then back to a truck on an S-10 frame).... point is, there long term and short term projects and building a pickup truck to then haul wood seemed a bit of a waste of time. Note I said nothing about the '40.... or the Corvette.... or the diesel Suburban. The Denali is simply a parts car that drove to its death.

What are you doing? You just can't quit can you? You insist on stiring the pot. I put the olive branch out 2 times now. Not cool, you will never get it.

Justin, you gotta admit they did earn that reputation. It's the reason I personally quit going there. It might be better now, but life is short. I would rather wheel! Come up this way someday and lets hit the trails.

Personally, I would rather bash Trump. More fun and he gives us so many opportunities. This isn't a political forum so I'll let that juicy target go.

This is a one and only post/mention of this. It will be built elsewhere but it relates to the '40 because it will be the '40s rescue and docking station.

Anyone who knows me knows that I like outdoor humor. Patrick McManus, of course, Rick Sieman? absolutely. What, you don't know Rick Sieman? in the 80s there were two crusty guys who wrote for offroad magazine. Granville King wrote one with Superdawg is sidekick, Rick Siemans wrote "the Wanderers" If I get really enthusiastic, I'll intersperse stories from him but the nutshell was a Suburban with every creature comfort that was designed to go overland camping before overland camping was a thing. This is my tribute. No, it won't have a 454 but will be more modern with diesel power. For now, the turbo 6.2 stays but this project will evolve over time.

So here is the basis.... a 1985 Grandpa-fresh 6.2 Turbo diesel with turbo 400 trans and 3/4 ton running gear. Dana 44 front, non-floater 14 bolt rear.

first order will be redneckepticomy (remove the added wires)

One thing I've been considering is putting a a/c system in that is not motor-running dependent. We do SAR, and having A/C that operates for up to 8 hours without running the motor is on the list of things to research/do. That may include putting the a/c system from a Volt in it (with the battery pack)... don't know yet but it is coming. Also it will have storage, a bed, a sink, a cooler and a stove. Both the stove and the refrigerator will have a gas option (like propane). I don't like diesel stoves so that's off the list though it seems like a natural fit. On top of this, it will have sufficient water (20-40 gallons)....

I believe any electric/hybrid car will have electric AC... I'm pretty darn sure of that... our 2014 prius C doesn't have an engine-run AC compressor.

We have a very similar Suburban.... an 87... thankfully not a diesel. Also, some day, will be the 40 hauler for us.

I was curious and looked earlier - I assumed you had picked up a newer Diesel Sub since the old 6.2s are generally perceived as pretty bad.... I was surprised to find that even in the late 90s the turbo diesel suburban with identical gearing to the BB variants had a 2500lb lower tow rating thanot the BBC variant. Far better gas mileage when not towing, though. Our SBC/TH350 87 Sub makes our 80 series seem fuel efficient....

Good luck on it!

I've been looking at the electric AC concept for quite awhile, and narrowed down to the one run on Volts. They're a 60 volt system that use a DC motor contained within the compressor. The batteries aren't cheap ($850) but are 4kwh so should easily meet the "must run for 8 hours" requirement. All in, the system (using the stock HVAC coil and condenser) will be about $2500. (Which, for comparison sake, is about the cost of one, trailing bloodhound puppy - not counting the 2000 hours it takes to train one).

I think a lot of people confuse the 6.2/6.5 with the 5.7. The 6.2/6.5 is a light-truck diesel that is meant to act about the same as a SBC but get twice the mpg. It uses all BBC gear - so hydroboost, bigger radiator, better springs are all standard. Never overheat them, but I still firmly believe most who blow head gaskets are the type who break rocks in a sandbox. I've never, and I have more then a million miles with them in both NA and turbo applications. With a turbo, I'd challenge in BBC-similar-equipped-rig to a load challenge. As far as fuel economy loaded... they get 13 against 11 mpg for the BBC in the same situation. The benefits are less service required, fewer things to go wrong, and 800 miles between fill ups compared to 500 for a gas powered (empty).

Big thank you to Ben at Filthy Motorsports.... nice guy. Gave a discount even though I'm pretty much a low-buck customer.

Buick isn't sure

I'm thinking of powder coating the ring tan to kind of match - however, the scuttlebutt in Washington is cops do, occasionally still ticket for this (especially in Grey's Harbor - but that area is near Bremerton and the Navy shipyard, so it might be more a "you pissed me off so let's see how many tickets we can tag you with").... so I may not.

I want that power steering reservoir :) I looked at where the pump is on my new engine. No way I would be able to add fluid to it much less run a tall neck to handle the overflow from the hydroboost accumulator.

Are those rims not DOT legal? You could always say they are fakes just for appearance.

it's yours.

it's not rumor that the cops in Bremerton have zero patience for Navy guys - I get it, wish it wasn't that way but then again I've about been hit by the enlisteds at Fort Lewis who do the race at 90 mph up the onramp then cut across the freeway causing everyone to have to jam on their brakes to avoid them.... so I think it's too bad, but I agree with the cops. Because of that, I think the only ones I know that got tickets were guys that were doing something else that raised the ire of the police or were guilt-by-association (the classic, a Navy guy pissed off a cop - but nothing citable - and so the next Navy guy gets the cop's anger).

It is a real thing, though, that so many rims have fake bead locks and that there are DOT approved bead locks that I should be able to get away with it. Not just that but the Zuke guys were running beadlocks and I asked them if any cop had said anything - they said no. And finally, I have several friends who are/were law enforcement and their line fits what I said about the Navy guys - that they have bigger fish to fry. It's not a moving violation in any case.

It would not be a moving violation if you are always broke and not moving ;)
