The town was swept away by what? You haven't? We should go there! If you find yourself in the ghost town of Saint Elmo then go over Hancock Pass. You will pass several mine ruins and the ghost towns of Romley and Hancock. Once you go over Hancock Pass hang a left and that is Tomichi Pass. You will pass an old mine that is open and you can go in pretty far until it gets filled with water. The pass is a narrow shelf and there are the remains of an old FJ40 that went off the side many decades ago. Once over the pass and heading towards White Pine you will come to the cemetery of Tomichi (which means "hot water" in Ute). The town was swept away in the middle of the night in 1899. Neat area!
Ugh.Avalanche.
IDK about Pass Patrol.I've been over Pearl several times it certainly is one of my favorites. It offers almost everything an off roader might want. Last time I had my diesel 80, here's a pic showing why you want tough tires on that pass
Back when Pass Patrol was in business (anyone remember them) the author told a story about getting three flat tires on a pass loaded with slide rock like that on Pearl. It was quite the story and I never forgot what he said. I had Toyo tires on the 80 back then and they held up well. View attachment 3193400
Searching for Pass Patrol books yields lots of hits for PAW Patrol...I remember Pass Patrol, I have some of their books. I also have a video about Pearl Pass that I think is from them. He drives it in a Bronco II and he blows out 3 tires. Still an awesome pass. It's on my list to go on again, when I get back over there. I want to go explore around the Montezuma mine area that is off of the pass road. Who wants to come?
I had the honor of running this with @scrapdaddy and @Gordobe back in July. Great drive with great guys!
