I posted up awhile back and got this helpful info:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/paint-body/297090-vin-tag-clean-up.html

I am about to try it myself.:D

Keep us informed. The VIN plate I need to clean is the one that is pop rivetted to the "B" pillar. I don't have a problem taking it off but I'd like to be sure it will work first!

I got my NOS OEM rear fixed window weatherstrip in. The job is MUCH easier with a little petroleum jelly or vaseline on the rubber. The new rubber doesn't slide very nicely at all when it's dry.

"PabloCruise", Eric Ellis had already asked about the weatherstrip yesterday afternoon in an e-mail to me. I know he should have posted up but he did e-mail me to request the old weatherstrip.

The next project will be either hinges or the headliner. I'll need paint color for the hinges in a spray bomb before installing those and I'll see how "lil john" does on his headliner.

No worries, keep me in line if Eric falls through...

Will do. I'll probably see Eric again next summer when we come up. I'd expect he'll know at that point what he want's to do.

Hi Charles , Are you coming down to visit Paul, let me know, Ibuy you a Beer

Cheers

I plan to drive down with the FJ55 sometime in late September or October. The only thing stopping me taking the '55 is that it's in my wife's name and the '60 is in my name. Any idea if Costa Rice will have a problem with me driving the FJ55 without my wife being present? I plan to have a notarized permission from my wife for the FJ55 but I'm not sure if that's enough for aduana. Both the trucks are Guatemalan and Canadian tagged and the Canadian papers show dual ownership on the FJ55.

Is there enough space at the Nicaraguan/Costa Rican border to swap plates and run on Canadian plates without raising too many eyebrows (that's what we do at the Guatemalan/Mexican border when we head north)?

Sorry for the hijack, but the vin tag clean up went well. All I have done is let it soak in Simple Green and light scrubbing with a Scotch Brite pad. I forgot to take a before picture. This is the tag from my 1964 40 series. It was black and you could barely make out the text. Here it is now.:)

Here's the hand polished and cleared version. I skipped out on the repaint. Thought it looked good enough. Here it is mounted on the firewall (not the best picture).

I dont really know if there some spot where you can do that on the border , I will ask around for a place, and i think is also not an issue if you swap the plate in nicaragua, i will keep you posted

Looks good!! I'll need to give that a try.

I'll probably just hang both plates on the truck and when I leave Nicaragua, I'll leave as a Guatemalan tagged truck and when I enter Costa Rica I can enter as a Canadian truck and all should be cool! Do you see any issues with that?

Watch to the '55 passing through from Reynosa, Mexico to Cranbrook, B.C. in the next few days sporting Guatemalan tags!

We'll be heading north through Dallas/Ft. Worth and on up to Oklahoma and Kansas. East to Denver and then north again through Wyoming to Montana before entering British Columbia.

We left from Guatemala City last Friday for an unexpected trip north.

Have a safe trip Charles.

In the unlikely event that you happen to be anywhere near Kelowna when you're here we should get together.I'll be here for a few weeks.

We'll be driving Highway 3 in a week or so.

Well, we arrived in Canada yesterday. That is one LONG drive up the I-35. I'm not going to do that again. I'll stick to the west coast. IT might be slower but it's a whole lot nicer.

Victor, I plan to be in Costa Rica in a week or two but with the '60. The '55 has since returned to Canada as you can see from the previous posts.

Here's a few photo's of the trip up with the '55. Not any stateside pic's 'cause it was raining HARD a lot of the way.

First picture is the Mexico/Guatemala migration post at the border.
Then a picture at a taco stand in Chiapas, Mexico.
Finally an artsy picture at night in front of one of the hotels.

Now we are up in Canada trying to stay warm!

Hey charles, when do you anticipate comming through here again?

I'm hoping to make a trip south in the spring, maybe February. I'll be going as far south as Costa Rica and probably be south of the US for a month or so. Wanna come?

I'm also on the hunt for a clean rust free '60 body so I can do a body swap on my BJ60 and be rid of the rust demon for another 20 years. Got any of those down your way? I'm not against buying the whole truck and then swapping either.
