Thunderstorms. Hah! That was a goddamned cyclone.
It knocked two trees over near us. One directly in front of the door to our tent. Like 2' in
front of it. And another a few yards behind us that would have fallen across our tent had it
not gotten snagged in a neighboring tree. We decided to sleep in the Jeep.
Shortly after we did, our rainfly failed and our tent was flooded. We even lost a tent stake.
The rigs were unscathed and we all came out without sleep, but safe and sound, thankfully.
We broke camp in a wave of downpours and headed to the Mill for breakfast. If you want
good food and horrible service, have breakfast there. :)
Then we took the Senator to Prescott, said our farewells and headed home.
...To find PHX under a flood warning until 21:30. Man.
Still, it was a good time.
We have pics. They will be up later. Seth and D took a few snaps too.

Glad everybody is OK!

Our run out was a good time, at first it wasn't raining too bad, the road was just right to get some nice roost in the corners. Then the real rain started, at times so bad it was hard to see the road and Phil's taillights with the wipers going full speed! Near Cleator the washes were running pretty good, typical flash flood stuff. One wash follows the road bed for a couple of hundred feet it was a foot deep or so, then a second wash crosses it maybe two feet deep and ripping fast! Proper application of skinny peddle got us though with much splashing! On the other side was a motor home and a line of cars going up the mountain! Between Bumble Bee and the freeway it was dry, kicking up dust trails. At the freeway we aired up and BSed for a while, totally dry. On the freeway it alternated between dry and "cow pissin on a flat rock rain" all the way home. The lightning show was awesome!

I put some up pictures of the run, if anybody has any they want to add send them to me. If the club site is ready they can be transfered there.

well my drive home was boring compared to everybody else. i could see where all the water had run, but it was all done when i went through, my drive home must've been a window of sorts cause all i got was some sprinkles. but before i left it sure came down on us up on the mtn.

HJ60 and yash,, i'm sure glad the trees missed the tent, whew!!

nice pics tools, thx for posting.

The fishing at Kinnikinick SUCKED. But it was pleasantly unpopulated, and the lovely view was only besmudged by a jXXp jamboree nearby.

We got DUMPED ON Saturday night. I'm surprised the RV wasn't washed into the lake. Made getting out the next morning a real treat. The road was so washed out and rocky, my boobs are gonna hurt for the rest of the week. :flipoff2:

You guys must have been way crabby after a night of no sleep, to piss them off enough to get bad service. :D

That was the absalute worst wind with rain I have ever been in, or camped in, wow, no sleepy time for us.

And yes the mill had great food with the crappist service I have ever had in my life,

Over all a good trip with plenty of laughs, rhino and rush55 on the CB were priceless.

Yes, despite the rain (even though it added that extra dimension of coolness to the trip) it was a great run.
Part 1
For us, Sat. started with RHINO and I meeting up with HJ60 and Yafreaka in the 01 TJ, and Sledge&Co. in the 77 FJ-40 at the Chevron east of I-17. Soon we headed on up towards the meeting point. About halfway there Sledge and I lost radio contact with out route leader, RHINO, and found ourselves about 5 miles off course. The detour was intresting though, taking us by Castle Hot Springs, and eventually meeting up with a group of guys in a mildly built TJ, who decided to join us in our run. We whipped it around, hauled bass-akwards until we met up with RHINO, who had made a turn without the rest of our knowledge, which resulted in the confusion. From that point on we decided on strict military-style radio communication. After passing an FJ-55 that time forgot, we met up with the Bling Crew of LandCruiserPhil (known for the rest of this post as LCP-"yeah you know me!") in his FJ-80 and Tools-R-Us in the LX 450, who were all anxiously awaiting our arrival. Thanks guys!
This was my first time on this trail, and found it to be a pretty sweet run. Mostly every hard obstacle has a bypass, thank God, because if not, someone would have burned their winch up pulling that 01 TJ through every difficult section :D I myself caused some trail drama when whilst trying to negotiate a ledge, stalled my engine, and the keys flew out of the ignition switch. Now, this happens all the time, with my keys usually ending up UNDER the seat somewhere. Well after tearing the inside of my Pig apart searching for them, RHINO finds them ON the front seat. That would be my only problem for several hours.
And speaking of RHINO, that clowned prince of Cruiserdom, he was attempting to astonish and amaze all spectators with his 2wd antics. It's true though to say that he was able to scale that first real obstacle further in 2wd, than the 01 TJ did in 4wd!
But to our dismay, the Bling Crew brought no provisions on the trip. Their idea was to just jam thru the trail and get to CK as soon as possible in order to get some grub at the Mill for lunch. The rest of us had coolers full of lunch stuff, so at one of the old mines about 3/4's of the way there, we stopped and had our lunch. We couldn't have asked for a better place to do so. The cool of the shade under that old brick wall was great. After about an hour we journeyed on to the top. The second half of the trail is just a steady climb to the top without any kind of rock-crawly situations. We soon found ourselves at the Crown King general store in the midst of what seemed to be some sort of town-wide event. There was practically no parking, there was an auction going on, a one-man-band was getting ready to play at the Salloon (who by the way looked like a cross between Johnny Cash and John Stamos [Uncle Jesse from Full House]), plus plenty of "pit racers" continually burping the throttle on their quads and dirt-bikes. From here, the story gets intresting.
Part 2
As Sledge&Co., HJ60 and I headed up towards Horsetheif basin to find a camp, it began to rain. We said later to LCP an TRU and ditched RHINO because we felt that we didn't have time to wait for him to finish his constant yammering, and find a place before dark. When we made it to Horsetheif it had turned into a downpour. We turned around in search of a side road. Soon we met up with RHINO and found a side road. But shortly before that, my steering had begun to act up. We found a place, I parked, popped the hood and found ATF all over the front of my engine and on the belts, the reservoir was nearly empty. Somehow, at sometime I must have thought it wise to put a quart of ATF in the Pig. At least I'd be OK for the time being.
Now mind you, on Fri., I was virtually clueless about this hurricane, and packed nothing to help ease my situation. Thank God Sledge had an exta rain coat, or I would have been sloppy wet (no sexual inuendo implied). I cleared out the back of the Pig and set up my air matress and sleeping bag. RHINO and I filled the PS pump reservior with ATF, and shortly afterwards, he hit the road. Sledge graciously offered me some camp food, and HJ needed a place to cook his, so we set his buner and pot on the case of a 1/2" drive ratchet and socket set on my sleeping bag in the back of the Cruiser. Once he was done, and my food was heated, I ate and drank two Kirin Ichiban's, hit the light, and crashed out the best I could. It rained, all night. And though the Pig has it's number of small leaks, my experience was far better than that of the other campers. No doubt you've read about the trees. Sledge&Co. had to get up several times to push the several gallons of built up water from off of their protection tarp. After the tree ordeal, HJ and Yafreaka got up and went into the J**p until morning. I myself was only able to sleep when the rain subsided a bit, and wasn't pounding my roof.
The others at breakfast briefly touched on the strange dreams they had on and off thru the night. I too dreamed those weird dreams of exhaustion. One I remeber had to do with a scorpion crawling on something near my head, and when I reflexingly batted it away with my hand, thousands of baby scorpions on the mothers back flew off and landed on me, causing me to flail violently. One stung me on the left bicep, and the resulting sting turned into a BB of weld splatter on my arm. Hmm.. dunno man.
Part 3
So when the glow of morning came, we all packed, headed to CK, and had breakfast at the Mill. Then we decided to go ahead and take the Senator Hwy to Prescott. What a great drive. The wetness gave the forrest such a cool aura. We saw people panning and dredging for gold in pouring rain. We ourselves stopped to pan in a little stream By the time we hit Prescott, the sun was out. We gassed and aired up at the Conaco. HJ and Yafreaka headed home thru PV, Dewey and Cordes Jct. Sledge&Co. and I went over Jerome, to my home in Cottonwood, Sledge&Co. on home to Flag. Truly it will be, a run and camp-out for the record books.
As for the PS problem, the exact source of the problem is still under investigation. Most likely it's the pump/reservoir seal. And this is likely due to the fact that it's a 25 year old Scout pump.

Thank god all are OK. I was on an Overnight at charouleau Gap with the Nissan SWANKy club. (unfortunatly ridding not driving my cruizer still traped in washington  ) We got alot or rain. Nice trail got to play in the crick (creak for you non red neck types.) My buddies yota truck broke a main power wire in the middle of a small wash when the rain started in 5 min the wash went from damp to 3 ft deep. We got him out in time though. Hope I can make the next trip with ya'll.

But to our dismay, the Bling Crew brought no provisions on the trip. Their idea was to just jam thru the trail and get to CK as soon as possible in order to get some grub at the Mill for lunch.

No need to be "dismayed" we had plenty of "provisions" to wait a couple of days for someone to find their keys! :D As noted in post #1 and #23 eating at the Mill was part of the original "plan", trying their Philly Cheese Steak was a big part of my wife's reason for coming.

Phil and I have considerable professional off road racing experience, I can assure you that was not jamming thru the trail as fast as possible! We were cruising at a comfortable rate for our rigs including stopping several times to shoot the bull, enjoy the view and take pictures. Last time we were up there we jammed some trails, including keeping up with a couple of rad quads for a couple of miles until they got tired of ARB in their mirrors and let us by.

We had hoped to do a mine run after lunch or go back the same way we came in. But after talking to some of the locals the weather they were expecting was worse than we thought, their advice was to stay in the main roads, turned out to be good advice.

Sorry for any dismay or stress we caused, it was not intentional! :o

No way Tools, no REAL stress or dismay caused. It's just that I anyway, had hoped we were all gonna stop at some point on the trail and take a break, bite to eat, together, before we hit CK. Sledge, HJ, and I were starving to death, somewhere around the half-way point, and had to stop. I must have skimmed over post #'s 1 and 23, and not realized that they were carved in stone ;^D
Oh and BTW Tools, those are some great photos!

LOL,,,

philly steak was on my list too but i missed the lunch menue by a 1/2 hour so i got me some spare ribs instead.

i must really be riding on a marshmellow cause i ate my lunch while cruisin the trail and i didnt make a mess. its not my rigs fault though, i drive slow, i cant wait to get the dbler installed, i think 130:1 will suite me well.

No, I think you ate lunch while sittin' on a rock. Who were we watching? Oh yeah, the Heep dudes were having a go at that rocky shelf section.
Oh and BTW, I got me pitchers developed, who should I be sendin' um' too, arrrr?? Tools or our CSC site? What's the CSC site address anywho hardy's? And if Tools, shall I be sendin' um to Aerotrashtrailerspace.com??
