What an awesome rig!

I just bought mine a month go with very similar original vibes and mechanically sorted, but yours is certainly next level. I wish I would have known about it! I saw your comment about the rear heater core…if it ever comes to memory where you acquired it please reach out. Mine sprung a small pinhole leak. Best of luck on the sale, I’m watching!

I like your style! Will do on the heater core. I ordered parts from so many different places, it's kind of a blur.

I’m the high bidder now. Don’t need another 40 but she’s so purdy, I couldn’t help myself.

Edit: I was the high bidder for all of 8 minutes LOL. I think this will end up north of $50k…or at least it should.

So many of us know what it takes to get to the condition that his FJ40 is listed. Any other buyer wont understand cost and effort needed to get one there. If you wind up with a $15000 skeleton, just imagine where it winds up in total dollars when each level of components is massaged and re-installed.

I’ve been looking at my old list of upgrades and the old to-do list…it’s a “done” list now and at a big number. 10 years ago I’m betting this could have been 3 FJ40’s

The cost is no joke.

Getting closer!

A good deal for that buyer…walking into a truck that’s just so ready to run is very fulfilling for a Land Cruiser guy. I know my parts list had to be minimally $20,000. +cost of the vehicle, my time and labor plus parts and labor in Ohio last year. Failing $45,000.00 in a sale puts me at a loss.so, congratulations @yotadaydreamin ….I watched it like World Series….I know you came close 👏

Thanks....yeah, 40 basically would just cover parts, materials, metal work. Then add in the countless hours of research, labor, consulting, driving back and forth the the paint shop, tracking everything, etc, etc and 40 seems cheap... I know the market is soft, but I'll shed some tears if someone gets it for under 50. I had $12k to the body shop alone (and it was in relatively good shape to begin with). I also gave up my entire shop space for 3 years to keep track of everything. It's an expensive and involved endeavor for sure, and I don't expect to recoup everything, especially in this whacky market. Generally, I hope the market rewards those of us who spend the energy and resources to do such projects so we can continue to do them. 40k is the I'm-never-doing-this-again number and I will be crying for days. :p
I thought I had “watched” the auction, but somehow didn’t. So glad you got the number you did. I hope you didn’t “no reserve” that 40!!! Beautiful work.

Seriously, brother. My ‘75 isn’t even as nice as yours but it IS solid. I’ve owned it since 1994, and unless I sell it/will it to my kids, I would want 50 for mine. The outgoing money flows with a sound like one of those rapid bill counters 🤣

Totally agree. I bought what I thought was done in my 43. Now I'm another $30,000 into it and likely another $20,000 before it's actually done.

I've always dreamt of a 'done' Cruiser. Even my '83 NAS FJ40 which was 6 years old when I bought it, needed a bunch of work when I bought it (which is why the original owner sold it to me: oil pan, trunions and rear pinon were leaking, intake/exhaust manifold gasket was leaking like a submarine with a screen door, power steering pump was noisy, Colorado rust was starting at the rear sill and driver's floor...... of course, I paid $3500 for it. But that was real money for a 20 year old college kid working construction and delivering pizza.

I reckon the buyer scored.

Definitely. The things you used to be able to get cheap 😅
I remember in 1998 by chance finding a complete ‘77 (with the signature rot in the back end) for $500!!! Engine was locked, but the truck was all there minus the jack & tools. It kills me that I sold it, but back then I had no space for it.

You guys keep track of costs? I hide, delete, burn what evidence I can.

Don't want anything being discoverable in case wife files for divorce over the cruisers.

Congrats on your sale, glad it worked out.

I am a meticulous record keeper. It's a curse. I have folders of receipts for the different cars I own and my wife often threatens to add them all up when I give her crap on the things she buys. 😅

But seriously, congrats on the sale @yotadaydreamin.

Rookie mistake. Apparently also a veteran mistake. But always a mistake.
