if you are having early battery failure on the aux battery I would check for a parasitic draw.

I had a truck brought to me and he had already changed out the aux battery which was a sears platinum. I checked for a draw on that battery with a meter and found a substantial one. He had some stupid big inverter in the back and even though it was "OFF" it was drawing a good amount of power because it was in a ready state or some thing.

He ended up putting a disconnect on that battery.

SO if I was to put in a dual battery set up and I decided to go with the Sears Platinum, which group # should I get? And what's the difference between the platinum P2, P3, P4, P5? Which group and "P" should I get to run a dual battery set up? Thanks everyone....

This is certainly overkill and I'm sure you know how to use Google and IH8MUD forum search but here are a sh!t ton of links on Dual Battery systems. All of the options are probably buried in there somewhere including the Marine products.

Battery selection is the simple part of the decision making process. AGM/Odyssey/DHP is the tip of the spear on battery technology. However, you can still get great high-CCA wet lead acid batteries with good warranties for a lot less.

I was just told by someone who sounded knowledgeable and confident that the next Sears Family and Friends, or Friends and Family Night is May 1st. Apparently the last one was April 5th. Some people at Sears don't seem to be very up on it as I was just told a week ago that it would be the 24th of April.

I think I am going to do the IBS-DBS Dual Battery system, I had asked about it in this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/455059-ibs-dbs-dual-battery-system.html

Looks like 80BajaBound has it. I think I will get it because of it's simplicity, looking at it here: IBS -DBS Dual Battery System with Microprocessor - Sierra Expeditions -I would like to someday hook up some solar panels as well. It is a little on the expensive side but if I were so  I would maybe trust myself with something a little more complicated.

Sounds good. I went with Hellroaring for "simplicity" myself. :D

For now I'm going to see how it works - once I get it installed. Weather here has sucked and all my projects are still pending.

For those looking for reversed posts, Sears Platinum P5 comes that way. I have one in my '04 Taco, no messing with cable switching. Below are the Platinum to Odyssey models. R stands for reversed posts.

Sears DieHard Platinum = Odyssey
P-1 GROUP 34 = PC 1500
P-2 GROUP 65 = PC 1750
P-3 GROUP 75/86DT = PC 1230
P-4 GROUP 34/78DT = PC 1500
P-5 GROUP 35 = PC 1400 (R)
P-6 GROUP 25 = PC 1400
PM-1 GROUP 31M = PC 2150
PM-2 GROUP 34M = PC 1500

Any word on when the "Friends and Family" discount is for August? I would like to pick a Die Hard Platinum up before a trip on the 24th.

Family and Friends Night could be any of the Sundays in August: 7, 14, 21, 28. Best bet is to call your local Sears store. Usually someone there can tell you, though you might need to get to a manager at some level.

Anyone want to make the call?

I'll check back if nobody else posts.

I'm behind the curve on my mods this summer, many of which are still in bags and boxes in storage.

When I purchased my Platinums the clerk wasn't aware of any sales that were coming up...

Are you asking which battery is the correct Platinum battery to buy for your Land Cruiser?

If that's the question, then the basic answer is whichever one you can get to fit, with the most CCA. All the Platinum batteries are the best batteries you can buy and they're all worlds beyond a traditional battery. Some people either fit or modify their battery tray to fit the largest batteries. I used the 34 and just swapped the cables with minimal modifications. I did it with basic tools and no knowledge. The stock battery has 450 CCA. I don't think any of the Platinums are nearly that low. It's really a case of "you can't lose". The different Platinums are like debating between a Ferrari and a Lamborghini when you're going to be racing against Toyota Camrys.

Do you know if the marine one's size fits an 80?

Search 31m. Lots of good info on how to make it fit. On my phone so I can't link you.

my die hard platnum just died last night...lol an man did that thing die hard!!!!

It's not common. Any chance the "lots o lights" had something to do with that? It seems that the few that crash and die do so due to parasitic drains, incorrectly wired accessories or aftermarket products, etc...

Got a recommendation for a better battery?

Other than the stock replacement model of DHP, you'll likely have to do something different with how it fits in the vehicle or is wired up. There are specific threads on how to accommodate different batteries. I just took a measuring tape to Sears and did my own on-the-spot determination by measuring the battery tray and measuring the batteries in the store. Since you're going to have to do the install yourself, I assume, you might as well approach the problem starting with the basics and make your own decision when you're there. I didn't want to bother with enlarging the battery tray or rigging up special supports for the battery. I went with the largest one they had in stock that fit easily and the reverse posts only took me an extra 10-15 minutes to deal with.

That's what I did at least, and it worked fine for me. A 450 CCA lead acid battery is what Toyota puts in this in stock form. There is a question, I assume you've considered, about how you're using the vehicle beyond stock form. Different people put different batteries in for different reasons. Some people have their vehicle rigged up like an RV and they want a DHP marine battery to run low draw accessories they'll be running while the vehicle is turned off, etc...
