Really try cutting and waxing, you'll be surprised. All colors get these swirls and scratches if one doesn't follows proper care, they'll stay clear if one does.

I learned long ago we scratch paint if we touch with any grim on it even dust!

I was good at cleaning my 01 LC The King, which I had for ~14 years. I'd not rub up against paint or allow anyone too. I'd make sure to clean fenders before putting on my fender skits for working in engine compartment. I'd never place stuff on unprotected paint. I'd used high pressure soap water to spray off grim before using soapy car wash bush.

But even with all care I took, my Thundercloud (silver) 01LC paint had swirls. That was from touching clean paint with other then micro fiber.

Today I use only micro fiber mitt to wash with good lucubrating car soap, dry with only micro fiber and re-wax as needed. My soapy water bucket has a grate in bottom so grim/sand drops to bottom. I no longer have swirls and paint pops after ever wash.

IMHO, BGP Actually shows even more lines, depending on light and angles. The paint gives off different highlight of angle due to pearl. This in the 06-07 which are BGP, not sure what year Toyota began using. They older (IIRC 98-02) color looks similar but are not BGP

Like any dark color they'll show more dirt after a snow storm, but not as much as black. But that's not all bad as it tends to prompt one to clean. Before I fell in love with this color, Silver's was my favorite, now I've two fav's. But even Thundercloud doesn't pop like Black Garnet Pearl.

"Beauty is in eye of beholder" As they say!

The Black Knight Hope you don't mind @dace voit

Sucks that Toyota didn't sell too many of this color. It's beautiful.

You did a very good job on your LC... nice luster
Thank you. I'll see if I can get washed and post up more pictures.

Makes finding one all the more fun;)

Interior is looks good as if not used much, but does need cleaning.

First vacuum only turned up an ear ring and not much else. I may not need to pull seats or console apart, will see as I get deeper.

I'll just use some Lexol, vinegar and other mild cleaners as not in need of much stronger. I hope the wonderful smell doesn't come out, I really like it.

Looking good, and I hate any hue of red on cars... It makes me want a 2007 as my next truck instead of a 200.

How will you clean the leather? I tried "Leather Master Car Interior Rapid Cleaner S" as recommended from another thread in this forum and it did absolutely nothing to clean.

For really ground in dirt Leatherique works well. But I no longer leave in for days, as it will lift to much dye. Also it works best on a hot days in indirect sun turning cabin into a sauna.

Hi Danny. I've not posted work on "Emerald" (Canada 00LX) I've got it running now and done a lot of work on it. But I'm really behind on postings. Just keeping up threads and PM's in need of help takes me hours a day. But as winter keeps me in more and more, I'll see if I can get a thread going on it.
Meet Emerald: It's one I don't mind parking in front row in tight parking spot at WF, it's rough!

Back to "Merlot":
As you can see here compared with pictures in post #43 the Lexol did a nice job on interior, but this was not ground in dirty. Lexol is mild stuff and sold at Toyota Dealer in my area. I've used it for about 20 years. Recently an Auto upholstery shop said they only use Meguiar's leather stuff, I've not tried yet!

As always start with least aggressive. I only used the Lexol and vinegar/water (on plastic), the Leatherique wasn't necessary.

Sorry Paul - thread hijack in 3... 2...

What are you using as the final stage sealant? I just finished up the pre-sealant stages and need to pick a product!

Thanks!

Okay, not a total hijack - showing how badass that BGP paint is...

(yeah - that faded body-side molding looks like complete &$#*! Gotta figure out a fix for that)

You could check out the 3M color chart I used and just apply it yourself. Purchased on Amazon!
I got the 1” wide M230 for mine.

All I did was the center section that fades really bad.

YMMV...

Can’t wait to see what becomes of the 500K Green Meany there!
Lots of work to post up, few new things I've not done before.

Looks nice, thanks for sharing. 3M is good stuff, I'm told they bought Meguiar's. I'm always a bit reluctant to do too much to trim, chrome or paint other than protect. I find these to be individual items people change to suit taste.

Circling back, just to comparing upholstery cleaning effect. I can say "Emerald" leather didn't clean near as well. With It I had to change Lexol rinse water with each station (door I was in). It almost like I didn't touch it. It will need many cleanings, or perhaps I'll try Meguiar's leather on it in the spring.

Not this 2007 LC seats

Emerald After Lexol cleaning; You can see a little better, so my GF doesn't get grossed out, but not really presentable.

Question regarding the soils in the seats, is it ground in dirt, or grease/oil/sticky stuff?

In "Merlot" it was just body oils and road dust that settled over time, it cleaned up nice wiith mild cleaner. It will look better each time I clean.

In "Emerald" it was ground in dirt, grease, oils and baked in for years. I have cleaned one's as bad looking, with leatherique, which worked well. Leatherique soaks in and pushes out.

With all detailing it best to start mild regardless. Getting to aggressive can be damaging.

In "Emerald" I may have bottoms of front seats re-skinned someday. For now I'll just drive and repair things dealing with operational and protective issues.

~350K miles, it reads in KM and C.

Back to "Merlot" the focus of this thread!

I did manage to wash and get some picture after getting wax on to protect paint for winter.

Have you every pulled up to a traffic light and found you had to lean forward and look up to see light. Well no need when hood highly polished.
