Jayp2: what results did you end up having at altitude? Did you get smoke? My 1HDT smokes like crazy at altitude when not under load. I would love to solve this issue if you have any suggestions.Oddball diesel question.
At altitude do you expect a 1HZ 40 with altitude comp on the IP to have trouble/smoke excessively?

Pretty common to get smoke at altitude with older Toyota diesels. My understanding is that direct injection and mechanical fuel pumps with no load are still fueling for the current RPM, but with no air introduced combustion does not happen, and that is why you see the white/blue smoke when going downhill using engine braking. Once you add air/throttle to the mix the combustion cycle happens and black smoke comes out again possibly with a soothing backfire!Jayp2: what results did you end up having at altitude? That's weird that ya'll were having all these smokey diesel problems. Mine wasn't smoking at all.

I seem to recall a nice smoke screen laid down on some jeeps on imogene. That's weird that ya'll were having all these smokey diesel problems. Mine wasn't smoking at all.

“Official Joop Repellant Vehicle”That’s why we put Ben and Travis in the back. To keep the jeeps away![]()
I will post how this will be handled by the KOA as soon as we are ready to. I will post on this thread in the next few days.Just to confirm, we can't actually book at the KOA until after we register for SAS9 early next year?
I somehow lost custody of my beer glass by the end of the week. Thanks for bringing those, Tim! Think that was the first time I pumped a keg since like '91. Sunny times. That's a Big Negative Ghostwriter! They were only available in camp accompanied by some tasty suds compliments of Gamiviti @nakman .
USPS (For those of you who are anxious about next year's dates, please relax some. KOA is giving us access to the whole campground for registration up to a certain date that will be several months away. You won't miss out or be denied a spot at KOA Ouray as long as they are available. Something like 190+ campsites are there. Having a reservation doesn't guarantee SAS 9 registration.
Those of us who organize this annually are enjoying a little downtime and discussing plans for SAS 9.
That being said next years Solid Axle Summit will be August 4-8 2025.
There will be an announcement and hints for #9 registration on this thread sometime after the new year. So be watching as usual.
Enjoy the rest of your summer folks and keep sharing cool content from your time at SAS 8.
Casey...
