Same, Rob. Looks like spotty pop up showers that are helping but not the dousing sort we need. Still forecasted through the rest of this week and into next I think. We’re out on 7/31 for Salida. Solid burger at Solcraft brewing and chill vibes downtown. We check in 8/1. See ya soon. Safe travelsI have seen rain in the forecast for the past few days and for the coming days. Any idea if it is helping any? I can not seem to find any info on it. I am watching and the fire does not seem to be effected by it.
I am still in full prep mode for my trip across the country. Tow rig checked out, trailer checks out. I guess, I need to finish putting my 40 back together to take wheeling? I will be on the road in two weeks, leaving the 30th to head out. I look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
To be clear, as a native Californian I'm not going anywhere !! Love the Central CoastAnd for the first time ever, a native Coloradan invites a Californian to move in!
Thank you and yesLooks like paradise, Richard. Still rolling with the 39's on your 80?
Paradise is subjective. Give me mountains, pine trees and the sound of a river I would take that 1000 times over the ocean. IMO that is paradise. Part of one of the reasons I am looking forward to SAS. I need mountain therapy.Looks like paradise, Richard

Absolutely. Altitude sickness got me bad last year when I was up there. We drove, and I figured I could ease into it. Nope. Once we got to Pagosa, I felt like sh!t. Time, water, and a couple of those special pills that get the blood flowing help.I'm right there with you my friend.
As a reminder, the elevation changes from where you live may be substantial. Where SAS base camp is located its 7,250' above sea level. Most of the trails you will be on are well above the 12,000' mark. Take some time to acclimate once you arrive, drink extra water and don't over exert yourself. Altitude sickness will hammer you pretty hard and it's on you fairly quick if you don't pay attention.
Our goal is to get you guys out in your Vintage Toyota 4WD's, meet some of the coolest people on the planet and return back home in one piece.
See you KnuckleHeads in a couple of weeks.

I usually double up on my hydration while in the mountains, especially at altitude. Coffee, Beer and Smokes is my recipe. The first two are water based after all. These are great points. I used to lead backcountry expeditions when we lived in Western Colorado and folks would do some interesting activities prior to their trio, like sleeping in a special tent to simulate altitude. It seemed like staying hydrated before (and during of course) their trip was the most beneficial. Once folks got dehydrated it was hard for them to recover.
Ease into or fully cut once alcohol once you get to CO. Wait a minute, saying that may increase consumption with this group.

Hasn’t been an issue for me. Coming from sea level you would think it would.I usually double up on my hydration while in the mountains, especially at altitude. Coffee, Beer and Smokes is my recipe. The first two are water based after all.![]()

The rain has been scattered. The Gold Mt Fire hasn't grown much. The burn areas are still N and E of Ouray. Winds are inconsistent due to the monsoon season, so smoke comes and goes.Same, Rob.
