Just to be clear the Subaru jokes are just that Jokes ;) !

The trail's in and around Ouray can be and are very serious !! and a well sorted & maintained rig is a must.
Good driving skills are also very important !! as is listing to your trail leader and or other more experienced drivers in your group, most of all pay attention one small mishap can have LIFE threatening and devastating results.

See-ya soon !
But I was going to bring my buddy this year...LOL!

I have been seeing post on Facebook about Ouray’s local businesses expressing their struggles and are really hoping for tourist to help support Ouray durning this hard time.

Look up the different restaurants, hardware store, grocery stores, gift shops, museums, and whatnot and please try to spend some money there this year.

Other events have canceled this year and they need us and other tourists to help push them through winter and to keep their hard working employees employed.

Just a thought! ✌🏼
I have seen a lot of this as well. The grocery store posted up, saying the locals like having their town back from the tourist but not realizing they need them to make "summer money" to carry them through winter. They also did not have much snow this past year and the ski and ice climbing tourist did not come either.

I think we can make a small difference and look forward to it. Even if everyone went out to eat one night it would help. It is a lot of little drops that will fill the bucket.

I guess this is why you are supposed to check your u-bolts…. I guess I figured out why its been driving a bit squirrely lately 😳😳😳

View attachment 4174046New set of shims ordered this evening and hopefully will be in the mail tomorrow
This is why I lost the shim… spring pin was sheared off…. Guess I need to inspect the other 3, and I now plan to add a couple of spares in my toolbox.

So what does everyone do about keeping food safe at your campsite?
We generally keep stuff in the back of the truck in a camper shell, but sounds like it needs to be more secure than that.
In previous years that would be fine but because of the Gold Mountain Fire, it may have pushed more wildlife towards the KOA and surrounding areas.
Maybe okay inside your locked vehicle… there are no bear lockers at the KOA.

Let me ask the KOA what they are suggesting their guests do and see if they’ve had issues since the fire started…

Here’s KOA’s response:
Beginning of the season there was a mom and 2 cubs. They were around for a while getting into trash. But we started putting ammonia buckets around the dumpsters and it worked. They haven’t been a big problem lately. But definitely asking guests to be mindful of not leaving food or trash out. Keep food in rv’s or cars if tent camping.

I'd be curious to know the economic impact SAS makes in the area. I know we normally eat out several times when we go - spend in some of the shops, etc. Not to mention fuel and campsites.

I’ve bought one burger meal and two t-shirts in Ouray during my previous two visits. We’ll hit it a lot harder this year. Looking forward to it.

All about supporting small business. Went to a pizza start up today put on the map by Dave Portnoy earlier this year.

Also, anyone around is welcome to join the KC crew 8/2; we’re hosting our TAC monthly meetup at Timberline Deli ~8am in an effort to support local in CO while we are there.
