I have the proffitts mount and I wish I would have went another route. It is a pain to get the bolts in the box. I had to grind some of the frame for the top bolt and grind down a socket to get the bolts tight.

I don't necessarily recommend BTB, but use that style of mount. Do not use the cast style as shown on the Proffits site, which is the same as the old Downey mount. Go with the flat plate style as offered by a number of vendors.

Really, just go with the flat stock bkt. [ BTB. ,Poser, that 45 dude in california}from any of the venders here on MUD. The cast versions have been known to break. My .02$

The Proffits is an advance adapter unit. I'm sure they also use other styles for their builds.
Jetfishing is right, it's hard to install the box and torque the fasteners with that piece. If this is you're
first P/S conversion you're close enough to BTB you should stop by and see if they've got an example installed. Their plate looks to mount the box low and tight to the radiator crossmember like the mount used
below. The Advance Adapter unit puts the box high. I'm sure there are readers here that could send pics of the AA unit installed

Use the flat plate one like 3daman and the others indicate. I've done 3 converstions, one of those I started with the mount like Profitt advertizes. Once I got it tacked on, I noticed it looked like I was going to have trouble getting the bolts to the box in without a large fight (hence jefishings problem), I cut the damn thing off and used one of the flat plate ones. You'll be a lot further ahead using the flat plate. Lot easier too.

Mark was recently recommending a mount that Jim (aka Downey) was selling on eBay. Unfortunately I've not been able to find a link.

Jim Downey's can be found here.

I got one from him, but have yet to mount it.

It's nice plate to use because it completely reinforces the hole you need to cut into the cross member, by boxing it all in, and provides more room to get at the lower U joint/spline attachment's allen screw/clamp, than if using a piece of thick walled tubing to reinforce the hole you need to cut in the member.

This is very nice bracket.

Yeah it is, and I believe it was Mark that turned me onto to this one after I explained that I wanted something that would return the structural integrity back to my FJ's front cross member.
The PO really did a hack job when he just cut out a ragged hole in the crossmember (with no reinforcement at all) and welded up a piece of flat plate to the horns, then drilled holes for the mounting bolts.
This Downey mount will allow me to cut away all the jagged over sized holes edges, and weld it in nice and neat, as well as provide good support around the shaft hole.
It'll clean up nice, be strong and still have enough room to work on that end of the steering shaft/U-joint.
The mount is pretty thick ..... and although I may not need to ...... I'll also weld in some thick wall tubing between the inside of the frame horns and the inside of the plate, that the mounting bolts can go through and cinch up against instead of the just horn walls and plate.

Here is another option from 4x4 Labs. Very similar to what Georg sells.
Saginaw Power Steering Frame Plates | 4×4 Labs

Holy reinforcement Batman!!!
That's certainly 'is' a mount ......... with an FJ40 hangin' off it!!

A bit pricey ..... but if doing some serious "huge tire crawling" ..... I'd certainly pay the price, and never look back.

Also ..... a really great place to hide behind if the shooting starts ......... :hillbilly:

For those using the 4x4 Labs kit - what did you do for the bolt sleeves? Kinda surprised the kit did not come with them, or at least the dimensions and specs to source them elsewhere.....
