I think the ARB might be slightly worse since it overhangs 6" more and weighs 20 lbs more. I was more worried about how it handles compared to stock esp at speeds 90-120mph.

@Reckless cayenne, meet, x5, Volvo XC90, sienna, Camry are much safer options for the 90-120mph game

120 cruising in a 200! Why? 7mpg??

That sucks buddy. Sorry to hear about that for you.

Always a bummer. Hope you're doing okay and looks like she kept you safe. Any pics of the other car?
The BMW, not too bad. All side curtains deployed. Like I said I steered as hard left as possible

Do you think an arb bumper would have saved the LC? I bought one and sold it before putting it on but feel soo naked driving my truck and worried about a frontal collision wrecking havoc like in your photo.

Negative. It's accepted that armor in an accident like this would make the situation worse. For both the armored car and the impacted car.

This is because the soft crumple areas are largely eliminated. The impact force will translate directly into the frame and into the passenger compartment. This is not a good thing as you want as much force to be dissipated by the crash structure at the front of the vehicle before it channels into the frame, cabin, and into your body. Further, it would surely cause the frame to be more greatly damaged as that is now the sacrificial component. These armored bumpers are built with heavier gauge steel than the frame components.

Then there's the impact to handling and accident avoidance ability. Hanging that kind of weight off the front bumper seriously hampers handling. At 120mph, with armor, lift, narrow AT tires... might as well consider it a train as straight ahead is its inevitable posture.

Thanks for posting some valuable insights. I agree with most of them although I still feel less damage would have been sustained in this accident and probably 90% cases. The impact on handling is why I didn't do it. But everytime I see a front collision in an LC I get the willies. Probably the only big wish I had for my LC is a steel bumper which doesnt affect high speed handling. The one reason why I want an LX. But bumpers, sliders, ko2s, lift look weird with the big L.

Fixing it....$14,500 work of damage. Probably will be more once they really tear into it.

Time for the steel bumper? Its been devirginized. New front suspension?

Rather than a huge overbuilt steel bumper, we're on the cusp of some aluminum options coming out. CBI looks to be getting into the LC game and will likely offer a steel and optional aluminum variant. Less weight, and perhaps less structure that will actually dissipate impact energy in a crash.

It looks bad, but the front end of a vehicle as built is designed to crumple. In this case, it absolutely did its job. I would much rather see this than a little nicked steel bumper. Because if that's the case with the same impact speed, then you know the energy was directly straight into the occupants. I'd much rather replace parts I can buy with money (or insurance), than wait for my body to heal, even if there might be bionic parts.

Just want to second what Tony said, you need to go after the diminished value too. Shouldn't be difficult to demonstrate another $4k to $6k loss in value due to accident.

Just want to "3rd" what Tony wrote. Who among us would buy a vehicle at a normal price with a major accident/airbag deployment listed on the Carfax? And dealers may shy away from it as a trade-in too, at least at book value.

Just about any carfax reported claim can be detrimental to the value, the fact that the airbags deployed makes it far worse.

I believe diminished value claims are state by state and insurance company by insurance company. But I'd at least give it a shot.

Unless I had significant mods on the vehicle or sentimental value, I'd refuse the vehicle until it was totaled and just buy another. I've had that happen before a long time ago, not sure if that would still fly nowadays. You need to be persistent and hold your ground with insurance companies. Generally, they're scumbags. Especially when you're not at fault.

Update,
Zero frame damage and basically all cosmetic except the radiator mounts. Other guys insurance accepted 100% fault so it’s costing me nothing except aggravation. Tomorrow is the complete tear down so they can get an idea of how much they missed on the first inspection. I Should have it back 3-4 weeks with freshly powder coated wheels....now what color to go with, anthracite or black......?

And I’m also waiting to here back about the diminished value route.
