In 2005 it was full of ice and snow. In 2003(?) the year the run was moved to August, it was full of ice and snow. I'd say this year isn't that outrageous. We're just used to the last decade of below average snowfall in general.

I can't wait and hope that I'll be able to make it up the weekend before

I remember the Marauder Bar in 2005, Tony dancing on it, that was an epic year and the weather just added to it.
Excited and waiting.

Here comes the hard line approach...

If you are not comfortable with the trail conditions, or have concerns about successfully navigating the trail, then please stay home. If you have already registered and have concerns, we will provide a full refund.

Last week I had more cancellations than registrations. That is OK for the same reasons noted above.

Yes, we will have snow. Yes, we will have a reduced turn out due to the snow. Yes, we will probably have one of the best Rubithons ever as is always the case with reduced turn out.

With the snow you can also expect seriously deep water holes, I mean flood the engine and passenger bays. We will also have mosquitos like never seen before with that amount of water.

Yes, it is possible our gear and equipment might not make it into the springs. It is all part of the adventure.

I encourage novice drivers or stock-ish trucks to stay home. Lets be clear, this IS NOT a beginners run.

Rubithon is 'the' hardest event in TLCA for these very same reasons.

If you are going, and have not registered, please do so in the next week.
If you are committee and have not registered, what the heck!? Get 'em in now!

We take counts 6/1 ready or not. I do not expect to order many extras due to turn out. and trust me, you don't want to miss this years shirt design done by Rainey Kirk, they came out very nice.

Remember, there is no shame in taking cable or a strap... and there is no shame in passing on this year and coming next year. Again, do what you believe you are comfortable with. It also makes life easier for our committee folks who have to ensure your safe passage.

and finally, attendees should plan for a reverse trip back to Loon on Sunday if the top is impassable.

A sincere thank you to everyone who has registered, and to all my committee folks, and to Ross, Dave T, JimJob, Bruce S, Robert M, Phil and everyone who makes Rubithon possible, even in these challenging years.

Be safe!

I'd be curious to know what the trail has been like this time of May in past years

It's been a wet, cold winter, and rain/snow at least once a week, every week this year. It's is probably the heaviest it's been. Last I saw we were at 140% of normal.

As Tony mentioned above, the difference this year than in many past years is that we are all hyper-sensitive to damage to the trail, and we all want to make sure that the trail is open for years to come. We will be working with Scott (Cruzilla) and the RTF to make sure that we are doing things properly. Tony also works with Del Albright. And TLCA as a whole works with BRC. So we hope we have our bases covered.

There will have been at least 15 rigs through the whole trail prior to the formal runs. We will let each Run Leader know of any issues that they face ahead. And on the exit, if we can't do it safely, there will be reverse runs out.

Besides, the Raffle poll is fixed :) fewer people means more prizes for the rest of us!

If I had one more month to get my new 4Runner ready I'd be there, but there's just too much to do.... Yes Tony, I know I said I wouldn't come back... but things change when you are given a free 85 SR5 4Runner that's already butt ugly.... I will probably be there next year! :D

I haven't been this excited since I first ran the CON, primarily since it has been the same each year I've been on it. Looking forward to it.

younger Jeff, priceless....Could have upped the music a little midway through. Great video

Despite the snow was the weather still hot? what should I expect the temps to be?

Looks like I better get started on some protection for that silly exhaust that sits under the frame rail! :D

Great To hear. I figured we scared you off for good. You better come to the PMC swap meet and get some parts for it.
A few of your other club members can get you pointed in the wrong...I mean right direction.

I don't think I need any encouragement... But I appreciate the sentiment Dave!

Can I still sign up?

Thanks for posting Andy... that pretty much sums it up! Probably just a little more of everything this year. :)

Yes, still time to sign up, calling for Registrations by 5/31!

Still time to cancel... cancellations by 5/31.

as I recall, there was a lot of dancing on the bar that year... and I was the ugliest by far.

and being as I turned 50 this year, we might be dancing on the bar again!

***

Looking for some space: Anyone dropping down Tahoe side Wed or Thur who can carry some M-bar Ice? Such as one of those 150 Qt big white coolers full and duct taped?
Just asking. While we might have a ton of snow, we always run short of ice for the bar.

Jerod: Yes, that was pretty funny: (Here's the story as I recall) sitting around camp on like the Friday or Saturday late afternoon/evening with all my PMC buddies (James, Jpr Ron, Big Jim, Dave T, Michael and a few more), and Jerod who drove down the prior weekend, spent all week helping and wheeling in with Dave, with beverages and good conversation going on,
and I ask 'So Jerod, after experiencing your first Rubithon, are you coming back?

'No' was his only reply.

OK, you had to be there... but it was pretty darn funny. Classic!

However, in Jerod's defense, it was due to the long travel, visitor and passenger, and being away from his sweatheart all week.
(I have one more reason in his defense, which I'll share around the campfire this year, and not in this public forum.) :)

Happy 50th B-day Tony. Check with Knorr brothers, I think one of those big coolers fits in Mike's 55.
