31's I rest my case.

Been holding back on replying to this, but here is my .02 anyway.

I think its crazy/silly to ask people: "Can i make it"? "Which area will give me troubles"?

When it comes down to it, there are way too many variables for anyone other then yourself to know the answer.

I have seen old timers/experienced folks walk up trails with open diffs and 31's using skill and finesse that unskilled a-hats (new term) couldnt get up with 35's and dual lockers and a whole bunch of go pedal.

Its all a matter of driving skill, style, and the ability to ignore the yahoos trying to have you take lines so they can be oohed and aahhed by your body damage.

Pick a co-dawg you trust, listen to him, and him only and go for it!

As for the TLCA requirements, if you email them directly, tell them wasup (your experienced, good co-dawg, etc...) they will almost definitely let ya slide, might be on the hush hush, but i wouldnt sweat it. I am SURE that they are OVER requiring rigs, to ease congesting.

i hear ya.
I'm opting out driving this year, will ride co-pilot and take notes.

I don't wanna be the whale in the line up that everyone grumbles about.
If I were to go another week and knew I wouldn't piss off 40 guys that just dropped mass coin on petrol to get there, I would go for it in the rig as it is now.

But a year of mods and witnessing the lines first should benefit myself, my body panels and make it a more enjoyable event for the rest.

That's right on the money.

Number one rule is to use a spotter that knows your rig, and you trust. I will be the first to say the wagon line is much different than the fj40 line. When i spotted Sammy a few time I could see the difference and had to change the way i was lining him up compared to the 40.

I would rather get out of my truck and look for my self than trust someone I don't know. Thats not to say i would not listen, but at the end of the day you get to drive home with the damage.

X3. There have been many times that I have disagreed with a spotter's recommendation and have never regretted choosing my own line over his. My handicap is that I rarely have the luxury of having a fellow 80 owner in the co-pilot's seat. I guess what I'm saying is get out, wheel your rig, know it's strengths and weaknesses and exploit them:D Life's too short not to wheel. Can't wait to run the Rubi:cheers:

Damn, i see we dont have that "Cupcake" smiley anymore! :flipoff2:

when i get new long's in the birfs and axles and a luke rear bumper, i'll be on the rubi.

oh, and some lockers thrown in while i have it all torn apart.

I know I could do it, I just don't want to be the slow guy, y'know?

so does anyone have any good google maps or waypoints of it?
I've hiked it before, but want to show the trail to the family, and frankly, it was a long time ago when I was there last.
