I almost have my dash out in order to fix some rust around my windshield (link below), but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the passenger side window defrost vent/ nozzle without either destroying the vent or damaging the dash. Any help would be much appreciated.

Bump.

Anyone done this?

FSM just says "remove the No. 2 side defroster nozzle". I see that there are two clips on the sides, but the damn thing still doesn't want to pop out when I pry the clips out.

If I seem to remember there is a hose attached to the other side. That hose is on there pretty tight. Well it's not exactly hose but you get the idea.

Finally gave up. Removed engine ECU and ducting/ bezel for PS. Inserted 1/4" drive 10 mm socket into opening in the plastic support and used an extension drive wedged through the vent fins. Vent is destroyed and still haven't figured out how to remove it. Good news is that the dash is finally out.

Yeah sorry my 92 had a different style. I think that a little heat, some JB Weld and a little file here and there, some paint and your back in business. I am a LC pack rat and pretty much haven't thrown a single thing away that I could not repair. :)

I will get some photos uploaded to share but I did get the vent popped off to access the final bolt. I used a thin small flat head and really pulled in the side tabs to where they looked like they would break but stayed pulled in. Then used the same flat head to pop the front of the vent between the dash and the vent.

Adding photos
So the vent is held in with two tabs on each side that you have to pull in very far and then pop the front with a flat head driver to release the front two tabs.

Bought the vent last year I think, but the P/N had been superseded, and the blue coloured one showed up instead of the oak one. Need to get a used one...

I slid a hotel keycard down on the left side, past the clip. Gently pried around the edges and it came right out.

Good to know.

may I ask how you removed the instrument cluster? I need to change a couple of bulbs, I can't read my fuel gauge at night, its driving me nuts I don't have a fsm , thanks

Actually, removing the instrument cluster is fairly easy, maybe 45 mins once you have done it a few times. I'm sure if you do a bit of searching, you'll find some threads detailing its removal.

Ill keep looking, haven't been on in a long while, thanks for the reply, I just ran out of screws to remove and its still in there, just don't want to screw anything up. At any rate, thanks again

You probably have already done this, but you need to remove all the trim below the steering column, and then the pcs on the steering column. It can get tricky to remove the trunk and gas door release if you choose to, or you can just leave them in. Here are some old pics I took, but honestly I can't remember everything now.

Some more...
