in the late 70's early 80's i was coming back from alaska and used the cassiar . no idea where i was at , remember that i ended up somewhere north of missoula but as i recall in canada i came upon a ww2 prison camp for german officers. it was quite the place and was open for tours. those lucky guys got to finish out the war in a piece of heaven. i've always wanted to go back and see it again but i have no idea where i was.

Sounds awesome, I've never been north of the border and want to go explore but a few days off from work doesn't really give me enough time to do anything. Might just quit and never come back....

Could this be the history you are are referring to? Fascinating stuff, amazing how this all happened less than 100 years ago and now we proudly drive around our Japanese vehicles

I didn't want to keep muddying up the buy/sell thread. I usually log on here to share routes or talk about Toyota for sale, so might as well combine all my thoughts here for those who are interested.

Today's pipe dream, how could would it be to f**k around in this rig. I wouldn't expect much out of it, and when it dies I can park it in my yard and call it a guest house. Maybe even charge $750 a night during peak season, call it a "rustic montana experience "

Actually looks really nice on the inside... If the body isn't too rusty this would be a sweet rig. I've got my snowmobiles currently for sale, once those go I'll be armed with cash which is a dangerous thing

Those little campers are sweet. A buddy of mine had one and traveled all over the country chasing snow in it. The only thing he every complained about was the lack of power. A 22RE may not have been the best powerplant for an RV but it never let him down, it also never let him go over 55 on the highway unless it was going downhill😆

Dude, that's twice as fast as my kangaroo mobile so I'll feel like I'm hauling ass.

Lol so funny to think of that poor 4 cylinder motor hauling that weight. I was interested to see it listed as front wheel drive, but that may be an error. The lady said everything inside still works great

I couldn't imagine driving this thing anywhere too far BUT I could see it being really fun to just hit some local camp spots or park in the driveway for a spare hang out spot / storage , We live in a 400 sqft house, so I can convince my wife buying this camper is cheaper than a shed =]

Some YouTuber put an 80 series chassis under something similar to these.

Does anyone have some tips for places to head if we cross the border and head north / north west into Canada? Looks like lots of potential up there but can only get so far with a few days off from work.

Lots of good wheeling in southern AB and BC.
All of these are probably only a few hundred miles from you.

Like your BLM areas we have similar rules on our Crown lands.
You can wheel on the thousands of miles of cut lines and abandoned logging and mining roads.
Beware though that many trails are only for ATVs and bikes. They are usually well marked on maps and on the trails.
Also note that some trails are seasonally open, be it summer or winter.

Near Calgary:

Crowsnest Pass area:
Link is to the Quad club website but lots of good trail info.

Closer to Fernie (I have not done these):

Around Jaffray:

Wish I had a big garage, and enough skills to know how to repair stuff

Always thought it'd be cool to have a 60 for messing around town with

and I know you 40 series owners love your rides but damn, $600 for a OEM bottle jack? lol Looks nice though

Oh dear, I wish I hadn't seen that 60! I really shouldn't take on another project right now...would be pretty sweet with a 2.0TDI in it though.

I don't personally know you but I can say with some amount of confidence that, you deserve to go get that 60 haha
Oh my word, this is a beauty.... My old corolla is on death row and this would be a pretty pretty prettyyyyy nice ride to replace it with..... I had no idea such a vehicle and motor combination existed

I just messaged this person , would be awesome to have this vehicle in my life. Finding parts for the imported version of these and the diesel motor may be a pain though and thats stopped me from wanting to commit to rides like this in the past.

Also what happened to the days of these cars being like 1500 bucks lol its a 40 year old toyota =[=[

Anyone out in Billings happen to know that Corolla diesel owner? Looks like a handful of other nice cars in the background.

For those curious about diesel motors in these little toyotas...is it weird that I can't stop staring at this car lol it's such a time capsule of totota history . Really wish I could acquire this . I'm traveling for work this week but may fly back into billings

Did any land cruisers have this motor ? Seller claims yes but im not sure which model. Maybe the hilux too??

I think its called the 1CT . I was surprised to see rockauto has a lot of available parts.

Seller claims no rust and fully rebuilt engine . Im considering a flight out there if its still available when I get back to town

What could really go wrong with a ride like this ? Arent these old diesel motors as mechanical as they get, nothing really electronic to fail . Just get fuel to the motor with good compression and she bangs ?

Thanks to airhead for sending me that Camry listing. Think I'm going to commit and try to aquire it next weekend .

If there is anyone in the area willing to check it out let me know

The turbo D , how can I resist ...there is seemingly no information out there on these motors . Sometimes I see the 2.0 motor but only a few bits of info floating around on the 1.8t. I used to work on diesel farm tractors and the lack of complexity was kind of cool. The turbo will probably be the first to show signs of weakness on this motor?? but currently everything is freshly rebuilt from a few years back and then was rarely driven

go for it, you'll be the coolest kid on the block
but
it's not my money

Well, I always wanted to be cool . This might do it.

Im surprised at the lack of info on the 1.8l version of this motor . Seems like the 2c 2 liter was the newer version that mor of the light duty trucks got
