No worries. @seth just posted some nice pics in his Old Yeller thread. It would be nice to know if others look like his:

Anyone have some good pictures of the OEM smooth round mirrors?
I feel like I'm chasing a phantom, or have a search image possibly based on an aftermarket period product. Don't make me fly to Salt Lake just to visit the LC museum again.

What other photos do you need? I’m thinking about talking with a metal stamping shop about remaking these...

Here are some more photos that I took the other day, along with a couple measurements of what the original mirror is supposed to be.

Not sure if it is important to you guys, but this round one came off of an early-64, registered as a 1965. I also have a late-64 that doesn’t seem to have this mirror style, so guessing somewhere around 8/64 they switched to a square style. See the second photo. Still waiting for confirmation on whether the square one is actually OEM for late-64.

I was hoping for a picture of a museum rig with mirrors _just_ like yours to reinforce the idea that "Yup, that's them." All of your pictures give me much clearer images than what I had before. Vintage photos tend to not be close up, personal accounts don't seem to be forthcoming (yet). I think we are worrying about the same thing, sorting out possible variation of the day, oem things that came prior or after, and aftermarket.

The rectangular mirror is an aftermarket

That rectangular mirror looks like it goes along with the rear view mirror from the late-64 though. Can anyone confirm what the actual OEM side mirror should be immediately after they changed from the round mirror?

I think I'm the only guy with early parts books. 1963=ROUND 1964=RECTANGULAR
Photo is of a 1964 registered as a 1965View attachment 1788177 , don't know if mirror is original, but appeared to be.
I have an early-64 with a round mirror that I know to be original. It might have gotten one of the last of the round mirrors though. Remember how Toyota would use parts until they ran out.

My rectangular mirror looks like the one in your picture. I’m not convinced it’s aftermarket. Can anyone else confirm whether the rectangular one is OEM or aftermarket?

The truck my round mirror came off of is 23390. I guess it’s early or mid-64 ish, and I have no reason to believe it didn’t come from the factory with that one.

My 32561 is late-64, as far as I know, and had the rectangular mirror.

My early '64 (5/63 build) apparently had a right side mirror added and aftermarket (probably) mirror heads installed shortly after purchase, based on paint archeology. I believe mine are aftermarket, even though I've seen pictures of several other early 40s with these exact same mirror heads. (The 4-point star is distinctive.) Among other things, the threads on the ball stud are not metric—therefore they must not be factory. I wonder if they were a common dealer 'upgrade' from the round mirrors.

those are also grote brand. probably not dealer installed, but previous owners probably put them on since the stock mirrors were a bit small

Yes, I see that now. I've got to make a quick change of plan. My Grote mirrors have no glass. I was planning to have the backs painted to match the rig (any day now), and then have a local glass shop cut new glass and glue it into place. But these new Grotes (which I didn't realize were still available) are cheaper than what it will cost to have new glass cut. Plus they probably have some sort of molding or edging around the glass that I won't have.

I note that Summit has two pictures for my size - one has the stamped star reinforcement, one does not. I wonder which the current production are?

In these parts, there are quite a few trees, and everyone (older timers than me) actually wheeled their cruisers for hunting and fishing. Such to the demise of their mirrors. So we need to as you have be careful on old photo's and old cruisers with replaced parts. A real barn find would be good right now.

And if and when they got moisture behind the glass - even just condensation - then freezing temps, they cracked. And got replaced.

So, the big question is still: If I could get the original round mirrors replicated accurately, how much would people be willing to pay for them?
