That dash kicks ass. What kind of wood is that and did you make cutouts for all the stock parts, ie glove box, ashtray, etc. or did you just put the necessary gauges in.
Could you post a couple of more pics of that dash?

Kevin

I got you beat. I have four of those cheap tail lights on my bumper. :flipoff2:

Nice rig, man. I like the wood dash, but I think I would trash the nice finish if I did it.

This thing run yet???

Thought Bob was gonna be on the road first ;)

BTW, you spec'd out the stereo???

:flipoff2:

was on the road but i'm redoing the exhaust...

the dash i made from a sweet piece of poplar and used a honey oak stain and poly to make it last...

I really don't know if i want to buy the metaltech cage or if i want to go halfers on a bender with my brother and bend one myself.

pros of getting a metal tech:
pre-bent
pre-thought of
just weld it (minor mods)
cons for metal tech
for the entire cost of the cage i could have my own bender
pros of getting my own setup
always have it to bend new cages and design new things
i'd be able tweek my design to the way i want it
cons to doing it myself
might not be as good as a metal tech cage
never used a bender before

what do you guys think i should do????? (subtracting your bias from supporting a vendor lol)

Go for the bender. Then you can make all sorts of extras, then sell them to schmucks like me.

If you got the space and can get a good bender for $500-600 i'd say get the bender, you'll have a lot more fun that way(bumpers, fenders, sweet cage). Good luck either way.

Glad to see your write up bandy...

Quality tools are a great investment if you intend on being involved with this activity for a number of years to at least get your monies worth out of them. They also allow you more freedom to accomplish more tasks, but there is a trade-off with them, just like everything in life.

Take into account the cost of materials not only what you will use on the cage, but what you are going to waste learning how to use your bender. You will not bend everything perfect the first time, and you cannot ‘unbend’ bent tube, any easier than you can stretch a drive shaft that was made a couple inches too short.

Do you have the space to keep the steel tubing inside?

If not, will you be able to keep it soaked in oil outside?

Otherwise it will rust, not only on the outside, but the inside as well.

Also, some steel dealers may give you a break on the price if you purchase 300 or 500 feet or more at one time, however, they may not pass that price along if you only want a 20’ length; it will likely cost more.

No matter which way you decide, I hope that a competent welder will be doing the welding.

i like the idea of getting a bender for myself. then reality kicks in

i have to ask myself,
how much will i bend and use
where to put all the stuff
am i really gonna use it as much as i think
can i make quality stuff and maybe profit on my ideas

i say yes get it!!!!

whats the deal with your exhaust you got it done yet? did you find the pieces you were looking for? post detailed pics because im in the same boat and have some down time over the winter and would like to get my ramshorns in.

On getting a bender or not...

Seems like a lot of fun, but if you are building a cage, I would have to say that going with a proven design that is well thought out, tested, and respected...

... this is a safety devise, I hope I never have to use one, but the first time I do, I want to be ABSOLUTELY sure it is going to work flawlessly for the safety of my passenger and myself.

Brakes, steering, cages... are not the place to try new ideas IMHO.

Sliders, bumpers, roof racks... go for it, you will become very popular with the fellas that live around you! :D

Great looking rig!

Rezarf <><

it just so happens that i live near the warehouse of JD2 i called them up and they're in Ocala so my brother and myself are going to ride over and get a bender. i think with the three of us here to design/chop/cut/build i don't think it will be a problem. another cruiserhead in my neighborhood works for a large company that fabricates and restores trollies that i might be able to purchase steel through...

just got my heat riser delets in from ecklers chevy (PITA to deal with company) there pretty sweet 50 bucks including shipping for both of them all in all it looks like about 3.00 worth of steel but still glad i finally got them from this retched company..

BTW without these in atleast my case the walker crossover will hit the oil pan. i'm using the walker crossover y pipe (2") to a mandrel bent exhaust out the back 2.5" with a dynomax muffler
