Roof repair from aftermarket sunroof!

Need some advice about how to best repair hole that original owner cut for crappy aftermarket sunroof. How thick is the roof? I have an old top, but it goes with an old 71 and I hate to cut the original top just to have a plug. Maybe I have to do this, but was wondering if I could make a mold or something. The panels are not flat so I don't think I can buy a replacement piece of glass to use. It will have to be cut from another or molded I think? Maybe someone out there has a roof section that would work for me? Any help would be appreciated. I have to make it very nice whatever i do bc this truck is all original with only 42K miles on the odo.

Cut it out bigger. Get another, complete fiberglass cap. Figure out how to sandwich a tent between the two with a nice lift mechanism of some kind.

I'm taking mine to a fiberglass repair shop on Monday for a very similar issue. Will let you know how it comes out.

Outsourcing to a trusted RFG specialist would be nice if I can find one I trust. Fiberglas work sucks. Done it once and hated it, but if I have to... Pleas do report back w any info. Still looking for thickness info. I heard it is fairly thick and if so repair should be every bit as strong as original. Underside will never be seen since covered w headliner. I have looked at many videos and definitly repaiable. Top is perfect so to me it would be much easier to patch than go thru entire pop rivit exercise.

Had the same problem. It's about 1/4" thick. It has a layer of "foam" sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass. This "I beam" layup is done to keep the weight down. The glass work wouldn be fairly straight forward for someone experienced with glass work.

I ended up swapping on a new roof to fix mine. Years before I riveted a 77 gutter onto my 74 top which had the sunroof in it... Looking back, I should have patched the smaller hole in the 77 roof, installed a new headliner, and called it done.

Just wanted to drop in here for a quick update. I got the "swamp cooler" removed from the roof, but the fiberglass shop wasn't able to fit me in yet. Hopefully I can get it over there this weekend for the repair. If all else fails, I'll have to look in to putting in a sunroof or something to span the hole left by the roof unit.

@RedTail07 did you ever get your roof fixed? I am planning on delivering mine to boat specialist after first of year.
