Need a roof rack on my fj80 for a roof top tent. Besides prinsu, what other options are there? Prinsu runs $1000+ with tax and shipping. I looked around a bit and not finding much. Thanks!

Tons of info on here about racks but I’ve got one of Bowfin’s rack and love it.

What kind of tent? You can just get gutter clamp crossbars if you want cheap. I have bowfin but i use it for lumber and heavy stuff as well as sometimes throw my tent up there. If you look in the armor section you can see other roof rack options.

Just a simple hard shell pop up tent. I was aiming for a simple gutter clamp and cross bars but having a hard time finding it.

Ok well if you are not afraid to cut a little just get the construction grade ones for vans from home Depot or Lowes. The sides stick up to hold ladders and lumber but you just cut those down even. I have a hardshell popup and it only needs two bars to attach it so you would be fine. You will need to be creative if you want to add more along with the tent like an awning but that can be done too cheap.

Are they steel or aluminum?

buyers choice really, since they have both. The downside is most local stores only have it by order only so you can't really look at them in person first. I would also suspect they will ride a little higher than many other racks but I see some are fairly adjustable at that too.

obviously full length gutter mounts types like the bowfin are going to be sturdier, but on the upside you can mount a bunch of the construction ones up there.

Here is one i considered.

Thought about what i really wanted and had a bonus from work, so i got my bowfin. I still think the cheap option is viable if you don't need to strength or the versatility of attaching more things.
