Got the new calipers on. Axles will be the next.

Finally got the new wheels on as well.

I have the very same tires (except white letters in..). You will love them-especially with the 5 speed.

Yep! Love the new cruising speed with the h55 and 33s

Just finished reading your thread and enjoyed it. I also have a 78 Mustard truck so I am inspired once again (seems to happen fairly often on this thread). Nice job. I will enjoy reading about your trip. Best of luck and be safe.

Thanks!

Truck was due for an oil change and I happened to see an abandoned bucket and convenient ditch on I40.

Are you coming through Santa Fe? What's your fuel econ?

Coming in on I40 so looks like Albuquerque tonite. Keeping up with mileage but havent checked yet. Feels like Im bucking a headwind. It's a turd with the 33"s

That's it for today's daylight, but I'm going to keep trucking.

unfortunately the only way to endure the 3b experience would to involve unlimited amounts of beer. Since three beers is near my limit and I really prefer not to mix drinking and driving, I got rid of my 3b. I got 16~17 highway with a tbi350 in a 40. My 70 got 20~21 with a 3b in a 70. Diesel averages 15~20% more per $ per gallon. I figure I'd rather pack the 120 extra HP and suffer with with the slightly higher cost per mile which I would save on the anxiety meds I'd need to keep from pulling my hair out fighting every hill I come to

Black smoke? Likely the altitude as Albuquerque is a mile high. Are you heading north on 25 to Santa Fe? Keep me posted if you are.

Turbo will wake that old lump up. Pm me and I'll put you in touch with a couple of mates with that engine; one turboed and one turbo/intercooled.

3:70 and a turbo will make that rig cruise comfortably at 65-70

I know the turbo would make it much more pleasant to drive, but I really hate do anything to minimize the reliability of the engine since I travel in this rig. It was fine with the 31s, but I really like the look of the 33"s. I would love to find a 13bt for it at a reasonable price. I went up I25 just up to REI, then back down to I40. I'm sure the fuel smoke isn't an issue. Engine is running excellent with no oil consumption between 4k mile oil change intervals. Oil and coolant gauges are working excellent (progressively) which I attribute to the new sendors.

A turbo shouldn't effect reliability so long as you watch the temps and keep boost to about 7. Having said that, it will never be as powerful as the 13bt just because it's not direct injected.

Too bad there are (almost) no 13BTs over here. I would love to have one of those as well. Would seem to be the engine that should have been in the 40s.

Long day on the road today left Tucamacari New Mexico this morning and took a detour to Globe Arizona to pick up some goodies from lcwizard. Amazing scenery on hwy 77 from I40 to Globe. I guess the 40s flat windshield isn't good at deflecting rocks some jack ass trucker riding the shoulder chipped the windshield. From Globe drove up to Vegas and nearly got stuck ina parking deck.

Climbing at 6500 ft in 3rd gear doesn't make people behind you happy with a diesel.
