Hey guys so I'm getting close to being done my sliders. Slowly but surely...before I get too deep into the legs, wondering what type of mount you guys would recommend

Current options:
-Welded to frame with gussets
-Bolt on frame
-Slip on (from bottom) with bolt on top of frame
-U-bolt mount

Bolt on is simple in the respect that I can do the mounting at home, but findings angles is trickier

Weld on is simple if I have access to a welding machine or if someone is able to do some welding for me, also the quickest on the fab end of things.

Thoughts?

Beautiful work there! Pretty beefy sliders. I would not recommend welding to your frame (machinist friend of mine says welding to the frame can damage it, as the heat will effect the strength/integrity of the steel somehow). Some sort of bolt on solution would be more desirable. But ultimately, I think Cam will be the man to answer this question.

Edit: Looks like Cam welded his: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/ne...vi-bit-of-an-intro.327566/page-6#post-5958522

Welding is ok as long as you distribute the load. Just buttwelding tube on there isn't a great idea, in case it rips off, but who would do that anyways?.

Also I think most of the " don't weld to frame " warnings you hear involve some of the domestic trucks which are more prone to cracking.

Toyota is just mild steel I believe, so welding isn't as big a deal. I welded mine onto my 70 after zapping on some plates to spread load.

Frame was kinda thin on that thing anyways, so all told it made it stronger, and let me brace some patches, without looking like I was bracing patches...:hillbilly:

That said, if you get a vi notice, and the inspector is a total dick he could give you grief.

Just weld 'em. You could bolt them on so they are removable.... but who ever removes sliders? Cut out 6 little circles of 3/16 in an diameter about twice as much as the mounting tubes. Weld circles to frame, weld sliders to circles.

The front leg will be a pain in the ass compound angle cut....

Ok so lets talk colour and finish

Leaning towards black but can't decide between satin or gloss

Thoughts? Preferences?

I was gonna say bright yellow......but that is a nice colour..

Weld them bolt them the same old dilema.. I H8 welding s*** to the frame, cause if something happens and they need to come off out comes the zip disc, recip saw.. takes a bit of work to bolt them on but well worth the troube

You should paint your brake calipers red, makes the truck feel like it stops quikcer:cheers::cheers:

Have a great weekend..
