To add it further, Here is a picture of a part of the manual that hopefully answers your Day/Night question as well as to show you how the New User Interface now looks. I was trying to embed a video in, but its 200mb +.

@jefo13 Unfortunately no. I made sure I did that and restarted both Cruiser and phone before trying to connect anything.

The pics do tell me that I was using a Gen 1 version.

Seems like Amazons Road Top updated their pictures UI to the second Gen Interface. Should be safe to say that they are starting to ship the second Gen out now.

I can now confirm that the Day and Night buttons do in fact change the maps from light to dark. Video below:

There is also a setting in CarPlay that lets you set light/dark/auto. I’m not sure how that works. If it uses the phone to sense, or if it just uses time of day.

I don't have Carplay to confirm if there is a setting for that. I thought about the phones time of day switching automatically, but I haven't had the chance to try at night. I do know that the Manual says that If I toggle Day and Night mode, it overrides it on Android auto and Carplay. I do know that in the Road Top's setting, you can adjust how dim you want the screen to be, but didnt have the chance to play with that setting.

CarPlay does it automatically (and it does it in gen 1 Car Top unit) but what may look like the screen is also doing is dimming it’s brightness… at least from the video where you toggled the dim button while in the factory settings…

Makes sense. Wished android auto can do that also. Just haven't tried it out yet. Did you guys have difficulty linking Bluetooth to phone to make phone calls? I'm testing the mic in normal and enhanced and I don't hear myself. All I hear is rumbling noises coming out of my speakers when I did a microphone test, and when I stop the test, the rumbling stops. Phone button feature on main menu is also useless because it does sync in my contacts. Manual does not say much.

Works well for me. Will tinker with routing the cable later on.

I opted for windshield suction cup and the arm extended all the way. I put a couple rubber bumpers on the underside which help keep tension off the suction and also provide friction to keep it in place. Ran it over some washboard roads, potholes, and took a couple turns at speed. Seems to hold well.

Wireless CarPlay to the iPhone. 12V DC socket for power and the provided aux cable for sound. Built in “rock” EQ setting is actually pretty good. Changed the boot screen for the Toyota one which is pretty trick. Boots right up and turns off immediately with the ignition button.

For about $250, I’m pretty pleased!

One thing I’d like to figure out that my simple mind and minimal effort have been unable to accomplish…

Is there a way to increase the phone call volume independently of everything else? My company car has CarPlay from the factory and you can alter the volume with whatever you’re on. I’ve got to crank the volume for a phone call and then burst an eardrum when it swaps back to Spotify after the call ends.

Any pointers?

Based on that One hour of Use, I do not see any sensors around the Unit that senses light. I know there is a quick toggle switch. I dont know if it automatically toggles to night mode based on time (RTC); That I need more time to play with as It is not night time on my side yet, but I highly doubt there is. Quick toggle is better than none at all or buried settings. It only Dims the screen for now since I've only used it on day time.

Please also share your mounting solution as well.

I'm Probably design and 3d print a mount most likely but I am still at a preliminary stage to see if the road top is best solution for me. I already have a Third Party Unit mounted on my car but almost all third party unit's phone call always have a problem; Road Top as well. I am going to send a video to Road Top to see if they have any clue to fix my solution.

How do you identify Gen1 vs Gen2?
You can't quite identify Gen 1 and Gen 2 because appearance-wise, they are the same. It is the UI where you can tell it apart. also if the manual is telling you to use Mlink for android Mirroring, that is most likely Gen 1 product. The Gen 2 Product switches to Auto Link Pro for android mirroring. I believe Gen 1 didn't have an option to dim the panel but Gen 2 can.

Oh I see… thanks for the clarification!
Hope I receive Gen2 version from Amazon.

i did this through the Land Cruiser call menu where you can adjust both audio and mic volume

if it’s possible, I’d try to configure the system in a way where you are using the OEM hands free from your LC/LX. It is far superior to any of the aftermarket boxes.

On my Grom, CarPlay rings, but the OEM system also rings, so if I answer the call with the steering control for answering the phone, I get the OEM. That does screw up the screen while I’m on the call, but I suspect that wo t be an issue for the Road Top.
