The lights in the bumper include brakes and indicators.

Ya, if the factory lights are blocked, that's a hard no. I can also see a big liability situation if I got rear-ended, and someone claimed they couldn't see the lights that far down.

the wide angle and close up angle from my iPhone pic made them look much more obscured. It's really just the reflectors that are blocked, not the actual brake lights (better pic below). I talked with quite a few people with dual swing-outs about this when i was planning my build. The laws vary by state, but in general adding 3-way (turn/brake/reverse) lighting into the bumper is the way others have handled it. Slee, ARB, kaymar and others all use this same solution.

In California...as long as they are on both sides (yes)...sit higher that 15” from the ground (yes) and lower than 72” (yes)... He should be perfectly fine.

I would be very surprised if there are states more restrictive than CA

I understand that logic, but that’s just not what is required by law. California has some of the most restrictive automotive laws in the country… But as long as the lights are no lower than 15 inches, and no higher than 72 inches… And are on both left and right on the rear… His bumper brake lights and indicators are perfectly legal.

I never thought to put those nut bars on the inside of the frame. I ended up using a larger bolt on one of those anyway, the frame has a bigger hole available so I sized up.

That's much better than I thought it was, ok thanks for that pic.

This version looks great! Love the three way lights and the asymmetrical swing is a nice touch. What size tire is that?

James said he's 5-6 weeks out. Hope
That helps with planning

Thanks man. just got the plastic cut a few minutes ago. amazingly did not mess up on it. I used Jason's (Trail Tailor) method. measure 2 spots, then subtract 9/16 and cut with jigsaw for clean edge. I was a little scared on this so i cut 1st without subtracting 9/16", test fitted, then cut the 9/16" off. worked good though. Edge trim in the am.

i feel like my bumper is on crooked somehow. just looking through old photos on this thread, nobody else angles up towards front of truck as much as mine. Is the top plate of the sides supposed to be level with the ground?

My part time guys brother is a Chipper and he said they use the 20' rule. If at 20' away and standing centered, if any part of the lights are blocked it's a ticket... if equipped with auxiliary lights like our 2 and 3 ways its a pass.

But at the end of the day it's the mood of the officer.

You’re probably fine. It always looks that way especially before you eye gets used to it. The rear frame angles down and the bumper follows the line. Other designs look flat because they are spacing below the frame at the wheels.

If you move the rear higher you’ll need to trim the tailgate support cables shorter. I had to do that.

Yeah I didn’t notice til after I cut and put the plastic back on. The angle makes sense to me with what you said about the frame angle. The only part that looks odd to me is just how little plastic I have left post cutting by the wheel. I believe my cut measurement was only 3.25” at that spot. That appears less than other pics in this thread. I’m wondering if there is any way my wing support brackets are on wrong and somehow up too high, making my bumper wings up to high also. Can you take pics of your wing brackets so I can compare the way mine are mounted?

This just seems too far off. To me it looks like somehow the side wings are mounted up too high (i dont see any alternate mounting holes in frame). Even the swing-arms, bumper tailgate top surface, jerry basket all are not level with the ground. On the sides, I only have a 3.25" gap there on the drivers side. The other odd part is passenger side wasn't same measurement, it came in at 3.5". anybody have any thoughts? In a little bit when i can find some shade I'll take pics under so you can see where and how my mounting brackets are installed

Do you have the wing brackets flat side up? I think they go flat side down, didn’t drive the lx in today to work so can’t reference until later.

Now that you point it out the rear bumper does look angled. Mine pools water on it, so I think it’s pretty level.

I wouldn’t fuss too much about a 1/4” side to side, that’s not going to be visible. Mine is a few mm out of square left to right and aside from a small gap at the wheel well it is completely invisible.

Flat side down towards ground. Yeah left to right I’m not worried about the 1/4”. Front to back is my concern

I agree it looks off.

Could you use longer bolts and add a spacer in the front between the bumper and the mount?

i think someone posted up that the spacer with the nuts welded on it were used to mount the wing brackets. maybe the smaller holes set the brackets lower.

since we used that huge bolt, i'd add spacers between the wing bracket and the bumper with longer bolts.
