OK, finally remembered to go out and take a few snaps. Like I said, I didn't have to cut any of the bodywork or do any welding. It was a struggle getting the bumper installed with the side "wing" pieces bolted on, but I left them really loose and was able to slide it on. Put the little slim piece on FIRST that covers the gap under the tailgate.

Those little captured nut brackets go on the inside face of the frame rails. These photos remind me that I need to pull all the hardware and swap it out for stainless. First picture is the driver's side, the second is the best I could to to get the little bracket, it's very close to the spare tire. Hope these help, yes I know I need to wash my truck.

look at the bracket in relation to the top of the frame. it sits down lower than yours.

Agreed. It appears that there is a lower hole in the frame to which you could attach the wing.

@KLF , your wing bracket is all the way down at bottom of frame rail. mine is all the way at the top. i did notice down below my bracket there is a threaded hole in the frame....was i supposed to use this?

a couple weird things with that hole. passenger side its threaded on outside frame rail. Drivers side it isn't. i put the brackets where they are based off the holes in the frame. I had used @grinchy bolt count from earlier in this thread, in which i used a big 4" x 5/8 grade 8 to attach this to frame. well that big 5/8 bolt only fits in one hole back in that area. so, what i'm not sure is if i drop down the whole bracket to use that small hole, will there be anywhere to even put my big 5/8" bolt through? @RLC photo above looks like he just used 2 small bolts nothing near the size of my 5/8". Well, we're gonna play with it later tonight. If my current configuration is the only way i can use that big 5/8 bolt, i might actually be better leaving my bracket as-is and just using spacers to drop the wing down 1/2" or so and call it a day

looking back at older posts, i see @ohsix has his side brackets mounted up high like mine. I can see the empty hole below his brackets also. curious if you have a profile pic so i can see if yours is as not level as mine. makes me feel a little better I'm not the only one who mounted this way.

I'm not sure if one of ours is wrong, but they are definitely different. I just went out and measured mine, mine is 5" right behind the tire (yours is 3.25"), mine is 9.5" below the front corner of the taillight (yours is 8.5"). Here's what mine looks like:

I dropped my spare, maybe this helps:

Thanks man, it just all clicked for me seeing you pics. Yours appears correct, mine is wrong, but should be easy to fix.
It all comes back to that plate with 2 welded nuts on it. My mounting plate was up so high, the only way i could attach to the bumper wings was to use that welded nut plate on top. Even then, that was after we cut a decent amount of metal off the body wings. because of this i assumed that must be where it goes as that was the only way to get nuts on top.

Apparently i should have never even used the big 5/8" x 4" bolt at all. i should have just used 2 smaller bolts using the 2 small lower holes in the frame rail. then used the welded nut plate on the inside frame rail. This would shift the whole mounting plate down, which woulda made it easy to attach nuts on top where the bumper attaches to bracket.

thanks for sending the pics, it's clear as day now. Will fix later tonight

Uh oh. I’m the root of some evil here! Sorry @DPA200.

The lx has done other stuff with ahc going on at the passenger wing, so I couldn’t compare side to side.

For my bumper it also wouldn’t go down lower in the front. It was devil hard to get it connected to the wings even using the high bolts.

I don't think you "Bungled". Either that, or we both did. I've taken this on and off so much now, i really can't see another way i could mount this. I'm wondering if different year trucks possibly have the holes drilled in different parts of the frame? I wouldn't imagine the wing mount brackets could be drilled wrong. Anyways, end of last week i went in determined it'd be an easy fix and that all i needed to do was move the wing brackets down to the 2 lowest holes. After completely taking the wing brackets off, and loosening up all the hitch bolts for play, the holes in the frame did not match up with the holes in the wing brackets. i tried switching the left and right bracket, that didn't work as the passenger bracket then hits the plastic fender molding so you cant even line up the holes.

So, after a few frustrating hours i thought, well, Maybe the master bolt count man @grinchy was onto something. if i have a hole big enough to fit a huge 4" x 5/8" bolt, how could this not be better to use it than 2 smaller bolts? Bigger is more better no? So, i used the large hole for the 5/8", smaller hole for 3/8", and just did a workaround. As some had originally mentioned the spacer idea, i put my wing brackets mounted up at the top edge of frame like i had them. I them went and bought four 3/8" x 2.5" (i think) M8 bolts, nuts, washers, and lock washers. The key was then Ace had these perfect fitting 1" tall stainless bushings (with 3/8" holes in them) to use in the middle as spacers. Now i wont say these were east in any way to jam a 1" spacer in there, but eventually i got them all in with a crowbar to flex apart the bracket from bumper, and a very important magnet to hold the nut to get the threads to catch eventually.

End result, as high and tight as it could be mounted, as level as could be. I'm happy with it. Just thought I'd post in case anybody else runs into this same wing bracket hole/lineup mounting problem

spacing i ended up with about 5.25" up front, about 9.25" in the rear. My plastic is now completely NOT cut correct. But whatever for now, and maybe I'll find a salvage bumper cover in the future to re-trim.

So much back and forth about what might go where that I’m seriously curious about something:

-Has anyone simply called the builder and asked?
Surely he could have settled this in a few minutes, since he just built it for you, right?

Not being snappy. Just don’t understand.
What am I missing here???

Aside from @Willy beamin the builder hasn’t seen any trucks I dont think. Can you take a pic for us of you wing to frame mount location and bolt orientation?

The spacer bushings certainly flatten it out nicely @DPA200. You can patch over that gap with some diamond plate;) I do think @KLF is on to something with the nut plate, as that makes sense to reinforce the other side of the frame from the 3/8 bolts. I thought for sure they would tear out easily just washer and nutted, so the plate addresses that.

I called James during my install and asked, he said the extra parts were for the license plate mount, but I think I just misunderstood.

I wonder if at some time the jig got reversed for the mounting plates on the wing bracket, and since it could work in the upper holes we just made due? @KLF did you drill a hole?

I looked on eBay, bumper covers were $300. Not the end of the world, but not free. I think with the lower mounting point I can deploy a much better design on the ahc wing bracket. This fix is now on the to do list, but not very high.
