I need to change the 22R engine on my 1988 RJ70.. Thinking of getting a more powerful engine..

I'm in Egypt, and have found the following:

Petrol:
2RZ $1,000 without transmission
3RZ $1,700 without transmission

Diesel:
1KZ $$2,300 with transmission
I am also looking for the 1KD..

My questions:
1. Any recommendations amongst the above?
2. Can the 2RZ and 3RZ be installed on my current 4-speed transmission (stock transmission with 22R engine)

Plan B is to rebuild the 22R, costing me around $600

Thanks!

cheap, simple, reliable and can be tweaked for more power.

i like simple.

I swapped my 2lt over for a 1kz. Bags of hp and torque. Driving a 22r just does not compare.

Just make sure the 1kz is a good unit.

@gotoy, the 1KZ is pushing my budget (its so much more expensive than the 2RZ)..

plus, for simplicity, I think sticking to gas would be better..

The concern now is that the 2RZ available does not include transmission.. so I would have to fit it to the current 4-spd transmission (G40)... Is there any way to check if this is alright?

@crushers what tweaks did you have in mind?

suck through turbo?
super charger?
just mild boost, a bit larger exhaust to help with the flow

check with the boys on the mini truck side, they will have better ideas to throw at you...

What are the implications of changing from petrol (22R) to diesel (1KZ)??

Whats the full list of parts I will need to change?
