I have used clear silicone in the past to seal up my racks and never had any leaks but Permatex is probably a better option. It has a wider temp range and resists oil, gas and other chemicals that will break down silicone sealant.

Good recommendation Gump!

I am crossing my fingers that the Rhino Rack plastic mounts and legs will last a life time. I doubled down on the Rhino Rack quick mount system and mounted 8 legs to the bottom of a Gamiviti rack. It took countless hours to get everything lined up; plus the nerve racking experience of removing the factor rack -- without losing the bolts in the head liner. Luckily all went well when installing the Rhino Rack tracks. With the addition of a pulley system the garage, I can now go from sleek city look to expedition look in a matter of minutes. I have a 3rd set of legs and the bars with bike carriers, so I can switch from bike rack to expedition rack fairly quickly. If I have time, I'll post the part numbers of the Rhino Rack spacers, etc. which I used. I am currently working on adding mounts to the top of the expedition rack so I can take the bikes on top of the expedition rack. I am loading the rack with the usual goodies. Fuel, shovel, traction mats, hi-lift, extra box, lights (with some type of quick release plug)
Gamiviti rack is very high quality. Worth the wait. I wanted something came to the front of the sunroof. I should have added the front basket bar to give the front more strength. Other racks might have worked, but Gamiviti was wider and the mounting plates gave me lots of options. Rhino and Gamiviti probably don't want their products combined. Probably not recommended for continuous overland use, but for me it is the perfect step up and very solid.

In summary, this install would not be economical for a professional shop. I need to stop playing with the rig on raining days and go use it.

I'm still debating different racks. A local shop recommended the Rhino Backbone with Pioneer Platform but suggested 84 x 49, rather than 84 x 56. Any pictures or thoughts on the differences between the two (and don't tell me 7" :) ). I wondering how significant the overhang difference is....does it go wider than the truck itself, etc. TIA

If you cruise through some early pictures of my build thread you may be able to find some photos of the 84x56 platform. I ran it for a while. Builds - indycole's 2016 200 Series Build and Retrospective

Awesome. I checked it out. I think this one picture seems to show how the 56" will hang over the side a bit. It's hard to tell by exactly how much given the perspective but it's clear that there is a bit of an overhang. I'm assuming the 49" width would have 3 1/2" less over hang on each side (7" total width difference). Thanks.

How close is the 49” rack to the towers/backbone? I have a 49x76 rack I’m transferring from a GX to an LX and I’m hoping to maybe get away with only purchasing towers.

From the Rhinorack website these are the pictures of a 49" wide Rhino Pioneer platform on the Backbone on a Land Cruiser 200.

(I just ordered the 84" x 49" Pioneer platform on the Backbone mounts)

I have long been interested in the Rhino BackBone system. I was asked to mount one to the cab of my Power Wagon last year and I passed because I didn't have a need and I didn't want the holes drilled in my roof. I inquired with Rhino about 2016+ LX 570 compatibility and they said they have not yet test fit those vehicles but it is in queue to be looked at.

I ended up playing around in the garage on Saturday and got everything to work.

I originally had this system on my GX. The GX uses different part numbers for the three sets of towers (RCL version).
(When I bought my setup the backbone was not out yet. Even now, I prefer the towers and I use the voids under the rack to slide in things like tables/maxtrax.)

With using the towers the 49" wide rack interferes with the mounting bolt. I used a 10mm rhino rack spacer on the front towers and a 5mm spacer on the middle set to gain the clearance. I like the slimness of the 49" width and I prefer this setup especially when the side awning is mounted.

I was never a fan of the "reversed rake" look when rhino rack puts the tall towers up front but I understand why they do it to help level the rack relative to the ground. Having the rack level to the ground is not a concern of mine....

All and all Im pretty happy with the setup and Im even happier that I did not have to buy any other pieces to make it work.

Does anyone know if Rhino RTS540 tracks would work for LX570 2010? Their web site gives that options for LC only, but I have a Rhino Pioneer platform with RLT600 that I want to install on my LX.

I can’t speak to the parts, but the 2010 lx570 and tlc have the same four per side (two bolts each ) Mount points.the stock racks differ, but the mount points do not.

That's what I think the roof seems to be exactly the same, except the OEM rack. I can't get an answer from Rhinoracks support. I would take the risk and buy it but I want to make sure it fits before I drill any holes to install that track system.

The roof is exactly the same in this year. The only difference is the TLC uses 3 pad rack, the LX uses 2 pad rack. Both roof have four pads available.
Search up a roof rack removal thread, there are some minor special instructions to make sure the captive nut brackets inside don't break off and drop into the headliner.

Good. I ordered the tracks, but I am a bit worried that my platform is a pretty big 84x56" version. Rhino's web site doesn't list it as an option with legs, only with backbone. I hope since I got a platform with 4 cross bars (4 pairs of legs too), it should work just fine. I talked to their customer support, but they told me to talk to a 3rd party installer if I need some unusual configuration that's not listed on their web site.

I am in the process of installing an 84x49 platform tray and backbone system. Their instructions are pretty clear and easy to follow. Make sure you use the right hardware, some are very similar size. Removing the old rack and bolts from the pads was easier than I thought. On the rack you need a little effort to break the blu-loctite free but the others (two on each side) came free easily. Just do a little at a time and go back and forth between the two bolts on each pad. I needed a thread tap to clean out one of the holes. Also a ball end hex key set helps since the backbone is at an angle.
