Man isn't that the truth. I opened mine, tested it out. Rigged it up and strapped it to my ceiling. Been there ever since.Rezarf <><

:) Mine is still in the box, sitting on it's side, next to my 40...I don't think you'll have to worry about me beating you to getting it mounted...

I was trying to figure out a way to mount it w/out the hard top on...I have a full cage so I figure it should be possible to fab up (well, have someone fab up) some supports that would attach to the cage and then use some bars...I would be really slick to be able to do this with a bikini to/family top on or off as well...Lots of dreaming, low on the doing part. :D

As far as the ladder goes, I just set it up the height I wanted and then took the bottom section off whole and stuck it on the top of the tent before I put the cover back on.

2 pins to get it on and off. Yeah, I would rather have an better ladder, but once you get the height set it is fine.

I may weld my lower section together.

remember that the height needed will depend on the terrain, right?

FInally got my last friday = a month and a week transit time. Now to get the LC up and running for it. Set it up in the garage to show ol lady to quote her "we better be going camping every weekend after you spend 600 dollars on a tent" Damn he is going to make me go camping against my will....

So you have to have a prior roof system like yakima to attatch it to or can it attach to the rain gutter on the roof of the truck. Maybe a stupid question but i am hoping you can because i dont have a yakima.

there is no way to attach this directly to the gutters without some sort of gutter mount. You need 2 bars across the roof.

FYI, this tent is not compatible with an African Outback Roof rack. And it doesn't look like adapting it will be feasible.

Hmmmm! That is my plan to mate it to the African Outback Rack! Why do you say this?

My Reply To You Is: WATCH ME :flipoff2:

The mouting points on the tent don't line up with the Outback rack. It works on one end but not the other. You could move the mounts on the tent system but this looked to me like it would be problematic. My time and skills are limited though so you might be able to come up with a way to make it work. In that this is an economy rack I thought that fabbing on it might render it useless.

the tent appears to have a frame made of square or rectangular aluminium tubes. Likely similar to what you see on the edges. I believe there are 3 cross bars (from memory) - I checked with a stud finder (it works). I think hte brackets are only riveted in so you could potentially move them, even to the edge I guess. The frame may be weakened where the old holes are though so some reinforcement may be needed. May be better to fab new brackets. Easiest is simply to add 2 cross bars to the existing rack.

Somehow mounting a Yakima rack into my Outback rack seemed silly. But it would work.

keep in mind the existing brackets are pretty long, something like 1.5 or 1.75", the hole down at least 1" IIRC. You could shave them or you need a crossbar that's something like 1.5" high. See the pic in my mounting thread.

What's with this AO? I thought that was the ultimate modular etc versatile rack?

I don't see why the CTT would be a problem on the AOR. The floor of this rack is a criss cross patern of flat aluminum stock which would provide support across the entire bottom of the CTT. While it may not hit exactly where the CTT brackets are it would be supporting consistently on all the other surfaces.
Further the internal brace on the CTT would be crossing a number of the AOR floor members (front to back).

It would seem that all one would have to do is find a different manner of securing the CTT to the rack and completely ignore the exiting CTT mounting hardware.

Any thoughts on this as I am considering building a J-Moose rack to hold my CTT.

how about this for the AO (and others?):

RTT flat on rack. Brackets protruding underneath. Just slip a long rod through the holes of the RTT brackets under the rack. Shim as needed. Secure for sideways slipping. Done.
