So I'm replacing the crankshaft and I have run into a snag. Do you have to pull the whole bottom half to replace the crank?
Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "bottom half". Trans has to be unbolted, flywheel, seal retainer, pan, oil pump, bearing caps. Lots.

You pretty much need to take the entire engine apart. That includes the front of the engine (water pump, timing chain, and timing chain cover). When I took mine apart it was the last thing to come off.

Yer crazy if you are trying to do this with the engine still in the truck.

Ya i don't think you can do it with all that IFS crap in the way. Just pull the engine out, it's not that tough with the 22RE.

Thanks! One more question can me and my brother pull it out my ourselves. We don't have an engine lift. We are both pretty strong big ole boys. It's under a tree if we need to make a pulley.

Well answered my own question we got it out! So when replace all the parts I have break in lube I should lube everything yes?

Please do yourself and your engine a favor and read over either a Toyota factory service manual or a Hanes/chitons manual. Replacing a crankshaft is not just a matter of unbolting the mains and rod caps, there are clearances to check, bearings to replace, specific torque values to meat etc....

Please don't take this as an attack on your ability or person, I'm just trying to give out sound advice to someone who has not done this kind of work before.

I have the torque specs and new rod and main bearings I appreciate your advice. Gramps is helping me he's a retired master mechanic. I'm just trying to learn all I can.
