Hi all, so after a lot of forum reading it sounds like I might have a bad fuel pump OR bad fuel pressure regulator.. here are the symptoms I have, but long story short I want to know if it’s possible to replace the fuel pump with out dropping the entire fuel tank? I saw a step by step video on YT but wanted to double check before doing all the extra work.
Symptoms:
-hard start when hot, fine start when cold
-rpm running high in idle, occasional stall in idle
-intermittent stalling, drive one day fine, drive the next and it’s stalling when pushing gas pedal or in idle
-strong smell of fuel when cold start
-very slow acceleration, feels like it doesn’t have enough power
Thanks all! Trying to get my baby back on the road with out these issues so any help is appreciated!

The fuel pump may be an issue, but down the list because you are obviously getting gas to the engine. Smell of fuel sounds like shot injector O-rings or a fuel leak that you need to find first, so go through the whole system and fix that. Also check the fuel filter, FPR, and fuel pressure damper. Idle issue could be a lot of things, including the idle air control valve (which you should clean and test). Pull codes and see if that points you in the right direction. One of the first things I did was replace my throttle position sensor, which was broken and can lead to a lot of the issues you describe. Clean your cold start injector just because it's also filthy... it will not help any of these but do it anyway.

The 3FE FI system is pretty simple, if I recall correctly the FSM lays it all out nicely. Good luck.
