I wanted to post a new thread to shed some light on different suspension alternatives. OME has always been the suspension of choice and lately there have been more suspension options brought to the market like the TJM and IronMan suspensions. Dobinson is another AU brand that tailors to our rigs.

With the added weight of the rear bumper and all the accessories I had added in the rear. The OME J springs were awesome but I wanted some more lift. So I have a buddy who became the Dobinson Distributor in the US and he said try these out, if you like them you can pay for them. So I took them and installed them.

First impressions: These things are beefy and heavy. Look at the pictures and you be the judge. only have about 5 miles on them and driving manners are retained, no wondering around. I will be going wheeling in a few weeks so I will update on how they hold up.

Comparison between the 850J front spring and the Dobinson front spring:

Comparison between the 863J rear spring and the Dobinson rear spring.

Here are the before and after shots of my rig. This lift added around 1.5" all around on top of my J spring setup with 1" spacer in the front.

I thought I would share this with you guys!! Let me know what you think.

Here are some specs between OME J Spring and the Dobinson spring.

Front
OME850J Dobinson
515mm Free height 555mm
220lbs/in spring rate 275lbs/in

Rear
OME863J Dobinson
505mm Free height 525mm
265lbs/in spring rate 275lbs/in

Looks great. The stance is perfect. Looks a tiny bit higher in the front. The springs rates seem to beefier for the added weight of armor/gear
How much they retail for?
Wonder how they will flex. I know my j's are like slinkys and flex great but I have nothing to compare as they are the only springs I've had on my 80.
Please update how the road handling changed.

Looks like a great option to have. Nothing like that will fit in my garage. Do they make a stock or near-stock height spring? I could see needing more capacity in the rear than the 862 offers.

BTW, that first pic is pretty scary:skull:...hoping the jackstands were pulled out of the picture right before it was taken? Hate to lose any Mudders, FWIW

Looks real good. I will likely be changing out my OME's next year as I think they are getting tired and will not maintain the height I want with the additional weight I will be adding.

Thanks guys as for price they are 220 a pair. Not a bad price at all

They also come in blue. He imported black to maintain the same color as OME.

That does look really good!

What sliders are those? I really like they way they look!

Nice looking rig mate, nice choice of springs, I know your Buddy that supplied you the springs quite well, I usually haunt the 70 series section.
Had an opportunitty to go wheeling yet?
As for the Black springs the USA distributer didn't think the Aqua would market well in the USA so specified Black.
Dobinsons has a large range of coils for 80 series Landcruisers from standard height to 8", if you have any specific requests please contact your nearest distributer for us to assist.

Thanks for the compliments! Yes I went wheeling last weekend and the rig performed flawlessly, the springs were definitely a plus with all the added weight. With the gear and all installed it remained the same height. I have heard alot about Dobinson springs and I am very impressed with the quality of the springs. I will also be installing some reservoir shocks as well. Kit is on its way from down under!

Will be posting more pics with the new shocks.. !!

I wheel with the guys who are Dobinson's distributors here in Miami. Awesome guys. I personally am not rocking the Dobinsons but will likely switch once OMEs wear down. The dobinsons stuff performs well from the time i have spent with them on the trail. The company also makes a wide range of 4x4 accessories.

great stance .. same spring rate and with that stance means your rear it's heavier than your front ..

You would be right. With the rear storage, fridge, rear bumper fullsize spare, roof rack and rtt. And then all the gear when I go wheeling

very nice. won't fit in my garage either :(
