The wiring harness for my cruiser was completely burned up when I bought it a couple of months ago. I wanted to get it running under it's own power again while I work on it so it now it has two temporary circuits, one from the battery to the starter via a push button and the other a toggle switch providing power to the coil. Hopefully by Spring I'll have a full harness back in it and the original keyed switch working again.:)

this is supposed to be a vehicle i get running for my son when he gets his licence. unfortunately my 1hdt needs a rebuild after springing a major oil leak so my fj62 is out for a bit and i need a vehicle. i have my name on the list for a new landcruiser but need something in the mean time so this timeline has been bumped up. it’s good though because i’m actually finally making progress again. i’ll keep working on it too when i have it running. it’s not going to be a show truck but i want it reliable and safe! this’ll give me a chance to drive it and confirm those goals before handing over the keys in 1.5 years. 😳. i can’t believe he’ll be driving by then!! man it goes by fast!

i’ll also need to make sure it has decent interior heat! this might be a cold winter for me while figuring that goal out!! 🥶

At least you have a heater in yours that you can get working.
South african spec apparently didn't include a heater, so that's another job for me too..

i was hoping to swap some of the 77 ebrake handle into the 72 handle to allow
me to use the 77 cable. no go. the 77 is to wide

72 is on the left 77 on the right. so i swapped the whole cable from the 72 on the the 4 speed. it all works but i may need to do some adjustments yet. not sure how well it’s holding but it’s attached.

here’s the difference between the early and later ebrake cable where it attaches to the brake handle

this time the 72 on the right the 77 on the left

now i get to be the new PO who bastardized the tunnel! i have to make some cuts to get the shifters to work! guess i’ll likely have to fab a new cover plate after

but enough for tonight.

oh one out of curiosity does the transfer shifter knob just screw off like the tranny? i can’t get the broken one to budge but want to swap it out

the only real good news i found tonight is that the rear heater was deleted by just looping the hose back on itself. i can work with that to install my flexalite rear heater easily enough.

still some trimming welding grinding and painting of course to “pretty” it up. more like lipstick on a pig but it’ll function

got few little details done tonight. i wanted to finish welding up the tunnel but i ran out of shield gas 🤬. so i adjusted the ebrake. works nicely now. i reinstalled the rear drive shaft and then ordered some shifter boots from city racer!!

i’d like to try and get it on the road by next week but i’m thinking that’s a big task. i’m close but may need a full weekend of work yet.

starting to put the fuel tank back in. there isnt a fuel separator. problem? or run with it?

the one vent tube connected runs to a dead end hose in the engine compartment

i got the gas tank back in the way it was when i got the truck. i got the tranny tunnel in (just waiting on boots that’ll be here in the next couple days. seats are in but i need to drill some new holes. these came out of my 77. i got an aqualu tub with under seat storage so new seats and rails will be ordered then. these are some dodge seats that came with my 77 that have been stored for a decade while i try to get that one rebuilt too. i’ll use them here though.

My vent tube runs up to a charcoal canister in the engine compartment, and from there the vent line drops down from there to just below the frame. The canister just absorbs some of the gas vapor.

tranny flush as this came out when checking levels

gross

but i went for about 20 minutes of driving. runs well but i have a terrible exhaust leak. i’ll make arrangement to take it in for new exhaust next week. i have to fasten down the shifter boots yet and then i can start on the door seals. the temp gauge isn’t working at all so i’ll have to chase that again. it was working for a bit but now isn’t.

i forgot how fun these were to drive but how bouncy!! gotta get used to a short wheel base again too!!

i wondered if this day would come. i finally got it licenced. i can’t believe i bought it in 2018!! that’s a long time ago. i thought i’ve only had it for three years. man time flies and i’ve had a lot happen these last five years!! but i’m going to try to drive it to work tomorrow. i have a long ways to go with door seals and rear heater etc but i can do that while it’s a driver

took the chance and drove it to work today. it’s first day in the big city!! felt like a bit of a dumpster fire to be honest. it ran well but there are so many little details that make driving fun and this is still missing some of those! i need to get new wiper blades and adjust the headlights better. then i need to get some proper dash lighting!!

at least my bezel is correct so maybe i’ll have some karma help me get home!! 🤣

whoooooo i got soooo high on my way home today. my fuel sender apparently doesn’t have a gasket so when i filled the tank gas sloshed out the top every time i took a corner or brakes. dang i feel crappy right now!! 🤣. i did stop and buy some gasket cork. i’ll make one tonight if i get time

@Racer65 or anyone else can you help me identify some stuff in my order? i ordered these seals over a year ago and don’t actually see some of these items in my order from then. i don’t know what these are for!
