What is the recommended brand/type/model of vacuum gage for permanent installation on FJ60, and what is best connection location and mounting location?

I've been told the best connection is the passenger side of the brake booster - that's where I got the best reading when I was redoing my vacuum tubing. As for mounting the guage, I guess the sky's the limit - there was a group buy on A-pillar pods a while back, that would probably work pretty well.

I use Autometer gauges, plumbed the vacuum line into an unused port on the top of the intake manifold.

Picks and part numbers anyone?

I think it's real close to 1/8"NPT...

it would be super cool if someone made a custom gauge face that matched the stock 60 series face, needle and all..

Is there an intake port for us 62 owners or just the carbed 60's?

Looks like pipe dope. Any non-hardening pipe thread sealant (PTFE) would be fine. The compression fitting, of course, uses no sealant.

@Beehanger If you're desmogged, you can buy the manifold vacuum nipple from Toyota - they call it a "gas filter", I suppose because there's a screen inside to keep fuel in the manifold from entering the vacuum system (it's not a fuel filter). It threads exactly into that port on the top of your intake and has a vac nipple on top. The stock ones that came with the 2F had three nipples, but they make a version with only one. Part number 90917-11022.

If you are still smogged, go to the parts store and buy a plastic vacuum tee. Pick any one of the vac hoses coming off of that triple vacuum source (also available new, part number 90917-11024). Cut the hose a few inches above the manifold nipple and put the tee in. connect the other side of the cut hose to the tee. The tee now leaves you with a 3rd barbed fitting that's empty. Get a long vac hose and attach it there, run it through one of the rubber grommets in the firewall, into the cab, and connect it to your in-cab vac gauge. I zip tie the tee to the big cluster of hard vacuum lines so it doesn't flop around. Here's the stock 2F "gas filter" with three nipples:

I use this gauge from Autometer. No problems in about four years.
