Just thought I’d share my most recent purchase. I’ve had four FJ40s (still have one), also had a 100 series, but this is the first 80 series I’ve owned. I picked it up locally here in Oregon a couple months back for $7,500. It has around 234k miles and great maintenance history. Most of the work done by Land Cruisers NW. Runs and drives really well. Interior needs a little attention and cleaning up, but it seems solid for the most part. Mostly stock minus a 3” (I think) OME lift. Tires are pretty much brand new as well. It’s been in Oregon it’s whole life, so no rust. The front and rear seats are pretty shot, so I just ordered some Katzkin leather for the first and second row. Will be ordering new driver seat foam as well. Lots of clear coat peeling so I might try the Poppy’s Patina stuff to see how it works out. Also planning on pulling the carpet and pressure washing, installing some sound deadener and jute, and painting some trim pieces with SEM.

Nice find. If you do the Poppy's Patina, please post pictures because mine also has clear coat delamination and have seen people post about the product but I am skeptical on "how much perfume it will put on the pig" so to speak.

Thanks and will do. Yeah, I don’t expect any miracles with the Poppy’s Patina, but might be worth a shot just to see.

Well, I can confirm it's a long way to the bottom of the rabbit hole of owning an 80. I haven't found the bottom yet.....

I wouldn't do it again. The clearcoat only lasted about three months before it started to peel after being hit with a pressure washer. It looked good for those three months though!

Good to know. I just ordered the kit a couple days ago so I’ll end up doing it anyway at this point. Good to know what to expect though.

Don't hit it with a pressure washer and you'll likely get better results!

I also sprayed mine on with a cheap HVLP gun. Wiping it on is a total waste of time.

Figured I’d share photos of the Katzkin leather. I purchased new driver side seat foam from Toyota and had them add a heated option. The color is called Lapis Gray. I know there’s some horizontal Toyota seat heater switches that would look better in the location where they mounted these, so I may swap these out at some point if it’ll work.

For some reason the passenger side rear seat no longer flips forward. It was working fine before I dropped it off at the upholstery shop, so maybe they broke something or disconnected something during the install.

$2,000 for front and rear seats installed. Coach Automotive in Beaverton did it. The heated seat option was an extra $600. Wasn’t going to do it initially but my plan is to use this as my daily driver so figured I’d splurge a little bit. I was looking into the lseat kit and I received a couple quotes from some local upholstery shops and they wanted $1,000 just to install. It was worth the price to spend a bit more for a product that seemed to have better reviews.

Another small maintenance piece today. Had an extra LED bulb laying around and popped it in under the gear shifter since the other was burned out. Still dimmable. I haven’t driven it at night yet so not sure if it’ll be too bright and annoying. We’ll see. Looks decent though.

I have some bulbs out in the dash I plan on replacing next week. Specifically the drive gear indicator and O/D light.

I also noticed there’s no dash indicator when it’s in 4 lo, but it seems odd that light would be burned out.

Also added some WeatherTech mats. Spent some time searching and couldn’t find a ton of photos, so thought I’d post a few up. Front and rears fit well. The rear cargo mat fits, but it almost seems a little too large by just a little bit. It came rolled up and hasn’t fully settled, so it’s not sitting flush along the carpet. This would work fine for those using third row and have areas that could be cut for the third row seat latches and the other latches in the rear.

Got the new driver seat belt installed today. $190 new from Toyota. I also ordered the plastic clips for the rear step pads and put those in. They were about two bucks a piece.

Also installed some green LEDs in the gauge cluster. I initially pulled it out to replace the “D” light and O/D light that were out, but I wasn’t sure how to pull that center piece that houses all the lights and didn’t want to break the clips. I was in a bit of a hurry so I’ll try again some other time. Not sure I’ll keep the green LEDs in. They look okay when they’re at the dimmest, but any more than that and it’s just too much I think.

I was also missing the clear plastic ignition ring that illuminates and finally put that in as well.

The map light has been out so I tried throwing another bulb in there, but realized the wire was cut. No idea why.

Another odd thing is the sunroof controls. They’re completely backwards. They function fine but it’s just slightly annoying. However, I pulled them out and tried flipping them and they won’t function. There’s little tabs on the inside of the plastic switches so when they’re turned around the tabs hit and won’t move as much as they should. They’re a different color I think (or just very faded), so maybe they’re pulled from a different vehicle, but I’d think they’d also be similar.
