recall coming

so no light no recall? Does this apply to Canadian vehicles?

No. The recall still applies, whether the light is on or not. If the light comes in, your choices are 1) don’t drive it, 2) don’t drive it with someone in the front passenger seat, or 3) ask your dealer to ask Toyota for a loaner while they wait for parts.

My airbag light came on my 2010. Called my local dealer and they offered to give us a SUV rental for free until the fix was offered. Only catch is I have to leave my cruiser at the dealership during this time. Not sure how I feel about it sitting for months on the lot.

I'm surprised the dealer would want the liability of having your truck there, plus dealing with it taking up a parking spot. I know when I had the airbag recall on my ES350, they offered me a loaner but I had to send a photo of the odometer with the car parked in my garage, then when I brought it in for the fix (when it was finally available) they would only allow miles on the car that it took to get it there. PITA, I just kept driving it, then ended up selling the car.

Anyone obtaining any updates from Toyota? My ABS light is on. Dealer offered to give me an Enterprise Rental Car loaner, but would have to leave my 200 parked at dealership until recall is repaired. Don't really want my car to sit at lot, however this is my family vehicle and my wife does not feel safe with passenger airbags deactivated shuttling kiddos around town.

Two different dealers have just (last week) told me the remedy is not yet available for my ‘17 and had no idea when I would get a letter from Toyota telling me to bring in the vehicle for the recall. My airbag light is not on. I guess the notice I received about the recall last December was mislabeled when it said “URGENT”.

If your airbag light is on, I’d get the loaner. If nothing else, Toyota having to pay for a loaner might encourage them to fix your LC.

Maybe have them check the code and see whether it is related to the front right seating position. It is possible (even if unlikely) you have another issue that needs to be addressed and you can keep driving the truck once that is fixed.

No updates yet for the LX. I received the recall letter a while ago, but no letter of action to call and setup appointment yet.

No update on the actual fix for me either. Definitely affected, my passenger side air bag light comes on (Indicating that the airbag is disabled) more and more frequently while my wife or I are sitting in the passenger seat. We've started driving the 4Runner as our primary vehicle in the mean time so hopefully a fix is forthcoming soon!

Called my Toyota dealer this past Monday and made Friday 11am appointment to drop off my 2010 (air bag light is on). Dealer said they would arrange a rental for me until airbag recall is resolved. I explained to them that I would need a full size SUV with 3rd row (this is our family vehicle and kid hauler). Dealer said they would take car of it.

Took off work, got to dealer at 11am, and they said they would call Enterprise. Waited an hour and dealer said Enterprise was having a tough time finding me an SUV with 3rd row, but they would get me one later that afternoon. Told them I was going out of town and Enterprise would have to drop off car at home. $12 bucks to take an Uber home. Get a call from my wife and Enterprise shows up at 5:15pm with a Ford Flex. Plus my wife would have to go back to Enterprise to do paperwork. Wife could not leave since she was getting dinner ready. I called Toyota Corporate to see if they could help while I was at airport and they were rude. Toyota USA basically said "listen we offered you something...be grateful...".

What should I do here? Should I go get my 200 and call another dealer? It is unreasonable to ask for a full size SUV with 3rd row (we have 3 teens)? Wife does not want to drive a Ford Flex for 6 months. Frustrating!

I think you are kind of hosed here. Treatment from Lexus was the same when I dealt with the Takata airbag replacement on my ISF. An Enterprise rental of a crappy car. I think your only other bet might be to find a Toyota dealer that has Highlander's with the third row that they loan out for regular services, etc. However that is going to be really hard to get them to do, especially for several months. Unfortunately Totyota's hands are a bit tied and they are doing the best they can. In my experience Toyota/Lexus Corporate are just a bunch of sweet talking a=holes in an office in Los Angles trained to make you feel good while they are screwing you over and refusing to pay out for anything. Just my experience, YMMV.

I would call the local enterprise and ask them if they have any other vehicles. Tell them what you prefer. Enterprise has good customer service in my experience.

You could take it to a Lexus dealership and they might offer something better from their service loaners. Rx 350L is part of of the service loaners.

I think anything less than a Lamborghini Urus is just disrespectful. What do you really expect as a loaner? That’s how it works everywhere. Having owned multiple Chrysler’s, I have become accustomed to the loaner process. However, as a Toyota owner, I understand why you may be new to this.

Go back and get your Land Cruiser tell them to call you when they can fix it when they have the parts and then use the passenger seat as a parenting tool, which ever teenager pisses you off the most or if your wife does they have to ride in the front passenger seat 😂

I'm confused. If the light is on, doesn't it mean the wiring harness needs to be replaced? I think a few folks paid for the repair out of pocket before the recall notice came out.

@Eric Sarjeant might chime in but I thought the recall was basically covering the wires with a wire loom and special tape to prevent them from rubbing/breaking something under the seat. If you don't have the light on it prevents the issue. If you do have the light on Toyota fixes/replaces the wiring and then prevents a future issue.

Someone with TIS/techinfo access should be able to pull up the TSB/recall info with all the details

Please PM me you VIN so I can research.
Should have no issues getting a Highlander loaner FYI

FWIW: Took the truck in for the recall. Still no fix.

Was able to have a conversation with service manger this week about my 200.

Service manager worked with Enterprise and Toyota to get me a new Infinity QX80 to drive until recall issue is resolved. Will miss my 200, but happy with the temporary setup for now.

Wow that's a score! Both the Lexus dealer for the LX and the Toyota dealer for the LC offered me $25/day credit for Enterprise. Um no thanks.

Lexus corporate offered $70 per day but I had to rent and pay up front and then they would reimburse after I provided receipts.

Well persistence and kindness with dealer manager paid off. He hooked me up with a 2019 QX80 4WD with 5k miles from Enterprise until recall is fixed. Still has new car smell.

Told my wife that it is nice, but it’s not a Land Cruiser. We will never leave Toyota for the Dark Side :)
