Rebuild Thread ~ 1983 FJ40 LX - Ex Aus

By The way - its been a long time coming but the Darth Vader (FJ40LX) build has been completed
I had some major issues trying to get it registered because the rocket scientists at the vehicle registration department "LOST" all of the import documents and they will not register unless YOU produce the original documents, the fact that THEY lost them is irrelevant to them.
Needless to say I am still awaiting the final registration docs.

I fitted black leather Audi A4 seats, a smaller 340mm sport steering wheel
A new windscreen was fitted as was a 95Ltr Aussie LongRanger auxiliary fuel tank
Im still making an overhead console for the VHF radio and a second set of speakers.

For some unknown reason I can't get the wipers to work on 2 speed and intermittent park, they only work on 1 speed and that is the fast speed.
I have checked and double checked just can't find the problem - the switch seems ok - but the motor doesn't cooperate, maybe I should try one of the replacement motors from the School Bus supply Co

I had major issues with front and ambulance door alignment after fitting the "aftermarket" (SOC) door weatherstrip

What else can I tell you - cos its been a 9 year rebuild whereas the Kermit rebuild was only 9 months.

I just need to put all the new emblems on which Ill do before it has to go for its roadworthy certificate

Well the restoration is finished, yes it took some time, mostly due to motivation issues as a result of the South African vehicle registration department losing the original submission and then refusing to accept copies. So I thought I was restoring a vehicle that I'd never be able to drive on the roads.
This issue appears to now be resolved and awaiting final collection of rego docs.

Must feel nice after a 10 year build to have it running. That’s perseverance. Great features on this rig. Great job saving it. Hope you get to use it for what it was meant to do. Well done!!!
