reassembled clutch won't disengage engine

I really don't see how this could even happen. Just putting the wrong side of the disc to the flywheel you can tell it won't lay flat

I'm going to remember it by thinking that the "male" side of the clutch hub (think longer, protruding) needs to "penetrate" toward the flywheel.

thanks

The FSM shows that the longer protruding side of the clutch hub faces the tranny, not the flywheel. Poser's first post is confusing on this point because the pictures don't match the text, but what he says about the protruding hub facing away from the flywheel is correct.

X2  Every time I read about this phenomenon I go out to the shop, lay a flywheel engine side down on a 5 gal. bucket, insert the flywheel bolts, and then lay the disc on it. It doesn't lay flat with the mating surface of the fly wheel! It just teeter-totters around! Looks to me like you would need longer bolts even get it bolted down. There should be a red flag thrown up here before one went any farther on the instullation

This should be a sticky or in the FAQs. The backwards clutch disc comes up about once per month!

Along with valve adjustment :shotts:

I looked in my fsm and agree with you, but swear the long side was away from the engine when i pulled it and now it works when I reversed it. I was going to snap a pic or two in the process - now I wish I had.

though the horse apparently isn't dead, I'm done with the beating...

thanks guys

Fuzznuts:confused: I knew someone was peeking through my bathroom window:mad:

The first picture shows which side of the clutch disc is the flywheel side and the second picture shows the opposite side, or the side that faces the pressure plate/transmission when installed. The clutch hub (splined section) is taller on the pressure plate side, and is likely bound on the flywheel bolts.

The side with lettering DT-075 goes towards the Transmission.
