I finally got the screw out. Just waiting on parts from Onur

Mine was lose when I got my truck 2 weeks ago. tried the single mounting screw, it was lose but tightening it didn't help, in fact it made it worse. Took it all off and found the two tiny screws to be stripped. Put some thread lock on them and it fixed it for now. Replacing the screws and thread locking it down should fix it for good.
BTW, the earlier rear view, from 98-99 is way cheap. I don't think it auto tints though or has the compass. Well under $100 though via Amayama and UAE. Think the one I have in route (for backup) cost me like $55.
And here is a high quality rear view,
Rear View Mirror with VFD Temperature and Compass
$225 is way cheaper than an OEM replacement.
Cheers
INdeed but it's higher than stock so it doesn't obscure any additional scenery and it's mounted on a Nite Ize Steelie ball so it swivels out of the way. That's the largest rearview mirror of its size in the world!
Does anyone know if Toyota sells the small gold screws that secure the black bracket individually? I only have 1 and will be buying the new “spring clip” as well as the black screw above given mine is stripped— hoping someone has a part number for the small gold screw that secure the black bracket. Thanks!Wobbly rear view mirror has been one of my biggest peeves since I bought mine. I finally got around to fixing mine today. I read one solution saying that the screw needs to be replaced. Mine was cranked on there pretty good and the head was stripped out so I had to drill it out. I tried just using the new screw at first, but it didn’t work at all. The metal “spring” mentioned in this thread was noticeably bent so I did some experimenting with a pair of needle nose pliers bending the “middle” portion flat and I bent the top and bottom “tabs” just enough to allow me to attach it to the windshield bracket. I attached the spring and screwed the mirror on and it’s now on nice and firm. No more wobble for now. I’m assuming after a few months after normal driving, it will start wobbling again. The spring is the weak part here.
Old screw drilled out with part number of replacement screw:

Notice the top of the “spring” is bent and he bottom tab is open:

Here’s the same “spring” with the top portion flattened out and the bottom tab closed up:

I don't think they're a typical metric thread pitch. I took one of the screws to my local Ace Hardware, and I couldn't find anything with the same thread. I finally broke down and bought the kit from Toyota with the two screws, spring, and mirror base. So, does anybody have a source for the two small screws? I think they're 3mm but I'm concerned the threads are stripped out of my baseplate. Anybody know where to get another OEM baseplate, if not the screws?

My screw is so tight it's starting to strip. Enough left I think, now that I know it does come out, to use impact driver on it. Thanks for the pics.I’m going to add to what Pahizzl said.
The spring caused my wobble, and that wobble comes from the two side ‘wings’ not being in contact with the mount and letting it slide.
So like Pahizzl did straighten out your spring and then fit it into the windshield mount making sure the wing is up high enough to engage with some black metal protrusions. It’s a bit tricky to fit the hook, tab and wings simultaneously
