put some duct tape on the part that is on the windshield screw it down if it wobbles add more. When solid trim the tape with a razor and no wobble and no visible tape.

That is a great idea! Thank you. I ordered the spring and will see if it helps with the tension. As assumed, they charged be over retail. $2.50. I figured I could handle their mark up this time.

^ Did they stock it or have to order? Let us know how it works out?

My mirror became loose and then fell off completely (hanging by the wire) after a windshield replacement a couple of years ago. After some investigation, and not buying the advice that it would require a new windshield or mirror assembly, I found a windshield place that told me the metal base threads had been stripped. At the risk of damaging the windshield, he was able to use a lighter to heat the adhesive securing the base to the window and remove it. He then replaced it with a new base from a 4Runner windshield. Worked like a charm. Of course, I recently had my windshield replaced again and now I have the same problem - loose but still on for now. I wonder if the replacement windshield company reused the old base, which should be replaced as SOP because the threads can't handle a round 2, and that's why this happens? They are getting a call to fix it when I get around to it.

They had to order it. They called today and said it is in. I will let you know ASAP

Update. My wobble wasn't at the ball and socket. It was the plate that is mounted to the windshield with 2 small Phillips screws. I removed the screws one at a time and put blue loctite on them and re screwed it. Problem solved.

Here is the spring. Looks jus like the one I have already. I will put it in and advise....

Does the spring fit snugly in base attached to windshield or so you put it on the mirror and hang it?

I have found that on my 2002 LX470 the part in the photo in post #26 will bend over time and not allow the screw to tighten enough to secure the mirror to the base (part attached to the windshield glass). When I notice the mirror rattling, I remove the metal "spring" and bend it a little. You have to bend it enough to tighten it but not too much. If yo bend it too much, the hook at the bottom gets hard to hook into the base.

That is kind of what I thought. It seems the new one has a bit more bend. I will try tonight.....

Verdict! New spring did not help. Wobble wobble. Crap!

^ Can you add a washer or shim of some kind?

I will try that tomorrow!

How can this thread just die with no resolution? I've got the same problem!!! arghhh!!!!
I will try that tomorrow!
You should have quoted him. Doing that will give him an Alert when he logs into MUD and if he's like me he'll check it next time he logs in.
Or, you may want to PP flaa1a and see if my idea worked or not.
Anyways, I just quoted him so he should take a look at this thread again on his next log in.

there are only a couple places it can wobble. The set screw, the 2 phillips screws, and the glue. my issue was both the set screw and the phillips. I don't think the spring would need to be replaced except in really rare instances. Maybe check if its oriented right. My windshield installer installed the spring clip upside down, and it took me a long time to figure out how things should have gone back together. FSM was no help that I could find. Once I did, and snugged everything up - no wobble. Anyone have a diagram to help these guys out?

For what it's worth, I had the same issue for a long time and never gave it much thought until I installed and SPod and used the sunglass holder by the sunroof controls for my switch panel. Having had to run the wiring up there, I had to remove several moulding pieces so while there, I started messing with the mirror and took it off. My rattle was due to the spring piece not completely set int the curved lower and upper lip. I reset the spring and screwed the mirror back in place and presto, that was the issue.

I never really got it to be really snug. Seems like I tried to put a little tape and stuff to snug it up and it helped a little bun not alot. I tried that "spring" every fricking way possible and it never got super tight.....sorry I am not more help.

Anyone got any other ideas for this. any luck with anything. I am having the wobble now and it is not too bothersome just annoying.

Update: Stupid screw is stripped. I am going to try to use a grabit pro bit on a ratchet with 1/4 inch socket and extender to see if i can get the original screw out then tighten everything up. Maybe get a new spring and replacement screw to see if that helps.

I just went to the dealer about a month ago and bought the spring I needed for less than 5$. Even the complete mirror mount which I had to buy when I replaced my windshield was less than $30 at the Toyota Dealer here in Boise.
