Rear fender trim with lots of pictures

So today was good, my new plan to get everything together worked well. I made a sheet metal run this morning and my buddy called and asked me if I could run across town and change a flat for his wife, so didn't get to working on it until 10:30 or so, but here are the recent pics of the passenger side.
Pic 1 is the sheet metal I made the new liner with. Used a comma Dollie to flange it.
Pic 2 is the liner completed from 3 pieces and welded together and to the body.
Pic 3 is the trimmed, finished inner lip that the arches would be welded to to seal it up.
Pic 4 is the new arch welded in, had to be done in 2 pieces and joined. Went flawlessly.
Pic 5 is the arches spot welded to the liner.

I will post more as it evolves, I still have to finish out the inside bottom of both liners.
If anybody wants more pics or details let me know. I had been searching for months on how the Arctic trucks were done and found nothing with pics of the rear, a lot of good ones of the front, but nobody seemed to ever do the rear wells. That's it for now.

You inspired me to trim mine slightly.....

Umm... You may have over shot it just a little. Nothing a few patch panels and some hammer and Dollie work won't cure. I was actually discussing that very thing with a friend yesterday, if the rear quarters were ever badly damaged I want to turn it into and extended cab 80 with a flatbed.

Not a common vehicle around here, especially as big as it is.

That is since I moved away... ;-). Nice job man, we moved down into N Cal so no mistaking mine for yours and vice versa anymore...

I still do get texts tho asking if I'm back... ;-)

Rig looks great! Now all ya need to do is join Lane Co Search & Rescue and the void will be filled!

I'm running 40x13.50x17 toyo open country MT on Pro comp 17x9 rock crushers with 2.5 BS

Did you order these with a custom BS or reverse press fit?

Hey Man, that's funny that you still get texts. Mine has evolved a bit since you saw it at Toyota. I think I had the homemade front bumper on it, but now it's got a rear that is waiting for the swing out to be built and it has rock sliders and of course I'm working on this at the moment. We never did meet up at wagon gear. So why did you move to NorCal?

They are custom BS, took 8 weeks to get them, apparently they make them to order, unlike summits website which said in stock and I'd have them by the next week.

New job... Living about an Hr away from pretty much every great trail known to man tho now! Get that beast built and come visit!

I stopped into a 4wheelParts the other week and saw a 17 x 9 series 97 steel wheel with a reverse press fit center. That basically take the standard press fit 4.5BS and make the inside the out. Some how this equaled a 2.5 BS or something crazy. The outer lip was like 5" deep!

It had a 37 Maxis mounted and I asked if I could test fit it in the parking lot, but it was for a customer... Looking at new wheel options.

Can you send me some pics? I'll PM ya my email if you don't have it.

Well guys, not much has got done since Thursday, my welder ran out of gas and I didn't get a chance to pick any up since:princess: Just got back from being gone for 3 weeks. So I mocked the driver fender Liner patch panels and tacked them up with fluxcore. I'm not doing anything more than minor tacking with it since it's so dirty and porous and half a**ed. Managed to make the panel using only 2 pieces, 1 small and one big, lots of flanges and bends etc. here is what I have.

Goof friggen work as usual brother!!!
Thanks Brother! Things slowed down quite a bit now that school has started. I made progress last night and all that is left is a skim coat of body filler, primer, seam sealer , undercoat and then monstaline around the wells and rockers. Then I have to lengthen my flares and monstaline them too.

So I finished up the inner fender areas on both sides. The passenger side was 3 big pieces and a 4th bottom piece made from 5 smaller separate pieces. I have a skim coat of body filler applied, temp was cooler today so i decided to let it cure over night before I go sanding on it. I have to pick up a caulking gun and stiff brush to do the seam sealer. I managed to get both rear fender sets cut up and clamped up and the plastic epoxy is setting up as I type this. Hopefully tomorrow I will find time to fill the gaps between the clamps with epoxy. Then I will feather out the front and back of the flare to about 3" each direction at different depths and lay fiberglass in. Hopefully that's enough to make them as strong as the originals.

School has slowed everything down quite a bit, but I was able to sand the body filler, etch prime, filler prime, seam seal and spray in some undercoating. I don't really care for the GUNK brand rubberized undercoating, I wish I would have been more patient and just ordered Wurth undercoating. But I live in the willamette valley in Oregon, it's not known for it's clear blue sky's and predictable seasons so I wanted to get rust protection on it now. I still have the fender flares to glass together, even though the epoxy I used to bond the two ends together seems to be pretty strong. Other than that I have 1 more dilemma that needs resolved before I order up Monstaliner. Looking at the wet primer dry I noticed a few bumps, what appear to high/low spots. They're small and not very noticeable unless you're really looking. My dilemma is that I'm OCD and I know I could spend the next year tearing this all out and redoing it until it's 100% perfect, but at the same time I know that most likely you won't be able to tell with monstaliner over it, and a fender flare covers the whole area to boot. So my dilemma is How to proceed? I tried to get good pics of the areas in question but they bumps don't really show up . let's hear the input.

That's great work! I re did that area in mine due to rust and know what you have to deal with. Wish I had done this while I was in there.

Mate, your too OCD..just monstaline that sh!t on there.
I'm sure you wouldn't notice a thing once its done.

I am a little too OCD. I did some sanding to figure out if it was high metal or high filler and it was metal... So I re sprayed with high build primer and even with the little sanding it was less noticeable. So I'm going to get on ordering the monstaliner. Quick pole for those reading this post.

My cruiser is white... Fuel door is black(bought it like that) should I stick to the original plan and use white monstaliner on the extended flares and around the arches and bottom of the truck? Plan on going up the doors about 1/3 the way from the bottom. Or should I do black on the flares and the bottom 1/3 of the rig?

So I was able to glass the flares together and sand the smooth and prime them, you can't hardly tell where I added extra length. Way better than I could have hoped for.

My rear flares are done with the exception of the driver side, I few buddies have been pushing for me to trim the fuel door to open around the flare instead of trimming and glassing the flare to accommodate the fuel door. What do you guys think?

Less work to cut the door but way more style points to relief the flair... ;-)
