Rear Doors Tearing at Door Stops?

Man! I wish I would have seen this before I welded mine up. I like the plate design.
Edit: mine is a 99 LX. My 02 LC shows no signs of fatigue.

For those of us who are still learning how to weld (and therefore didn't want to melt through two different thicknesses of metal) I propose an alternative plate design utilizing rivets. It's not the best solution out there. I really like the 10 gauge steel idea with extreme duty plates.

It's a shame this happens on the 1999 and 2000. Has anyone recorded this happening on a 1998 or later than 2000?

I lost the 10mm JIS M8x1.25 bolt for the b-pillar so I used a random M8 I had lying around.

I figured out that the door check (I referred to them as 'props' in my thread) is serviceable if desired. I took mine apart and regressed the rollers and springs.

I just discovered this thread. I have a 99LC originally from S. Cali. Went out and inspected the doors. No signs of metal stress or failure yet, but I did spray all 4 with some P Blaster Dry Silicone to hopefully stave off any future issue.

I went ahead and bought these weld-in plates along with a new door check assembly. These are the 1st Gen Tundra plates referenced above. I will try to document the outcome.

This has happened to my 98. Driver side rear passenger door.

You can add me to the list of broken doors at 275K. Rear passenger side fully pushed in and after checking the rear driver side it's cracked and ready to give out soon. Fronts don't seem to be an issue. I had cleaned and lubed these in the past, mostly because of squeaking since I didn't know this was an issue. I don't think lubing will solve all the problems, it seems the spring loaded rollers inside the housing have seized up pretty bad on mine, it takes a tremendous amount of force to push it through the stops. Going to soak them in acetone and lube to see if they are salvageable.

I went ahead and made a template similar to @PabloCruise in post 31 and sent it to Online Laser and CNC cutting for metals and plastics - Instant Quotes - https://sendcutsend.com to be cut in 11g sheet metal. I will have the passenger side cut out and welded in and hoping I can just bolt the plate on the driver side to prevent it from cracking further and pushing through. I had to order 15 piece to meet the metal minimum so if they work out I will ship anyone a set for the shipping cost.

I’ve been looking at my broken drivers side for over a year now. Ready to do something about it finally. Did you have any luck with your part?

Added bare metal plates to the website that can be welded onto the door for those whose doors are too far gone/already broken.

Thank you for making these @cruiserpatch I've been just suffering for the last couple years, watching the kids swing open the rear doors, wondering when they will just fly right off the hinges. But now, a holiday miracle has come. Ordered my set. It's gonna be a good christmas.

Got your order! Thank you for the support. I’ll send you a set this afternoon 👍🏼

I also wondered how long until my doors flew off the truck 😂 Decided it was time to make a permanent solution.

Merry Christmas from Cruiser Patch 🎄
