The outside rear handle has always kinda got hung up and I would have to push it flush to ensure the door would latch. Tonight I gave it a good shove and
I heard something let go inside the door and clunk its way to the inside bottom of the inner door. Fortunately I can still open it from the inside and it still latches
when closed but I can no longer unlatch from the outside. Any ideas as to what might have come loose or broke and possible fixes?

regards

There is a piece of plastic linkage that connects the exterior handle to a rod that pivots the cam to the latch. That is probably what broke, additionally there is a spring connected to the handle which returns the handle to flush position - the spring is probably rusty which is why it would not return the handle, could also have broken the innards of the handle itself.
