Wanting to replace my rear bumper cover. Anyone done this? I'd like to hear what it entails. Do you need to remove the trailer hitch? Thanks in advance.

So if I am getting a new bumper cover - my old one is smushed in at the corner amongst other issues - it's just unscrew, remove, and screw back on?

if the underlying metal supports are bent then no, without knowing more it is difficult to say what else may be needed

the bumper cover is an easy unscrew and replace but if there is more damage?????

Most trailer hitch, that bolt on below bumper. Need to be removing first. As they cover a few bolts we need to get at, to remove bumper skin.

When rear bumpers' metal upper support mildly hit, near corners. It smashes into 1/4 tip. Which at minimum, damage body paint, exposing bare metal. 1/4 tips, must be paints or it will rust.

In medium to hard hits, to rear 1/4 tips. It can, cause damage to body seams in 1/4 tips. This opens them up to excessive road dust and water. They then rust. So we need to careful correct and body issues. We also need to make sure the 3 or 4 weep holes along bottom of 1/4 tips, clean and open.

I'll note too: We need to clean out 1/4 tips. Then use a body cavity wax or fluid film, wool wax, PB shield. Some rust protecting spray. In all 100 series, the 1/4 tip weep holes, are clogging with dust and retaining moisture. For those that run rear AC. Condensation builds in PS (RH) 1/4 tips, rustling in rusty in body seams more than on DS (LH).

Or this can happen. Which opens rear cargo area to exhaust fumes from tail pipe.
